I'm not a big fan of Swanson. In 6 full seasons he's had an OPS + under 100 on 4 occasions and one of the season he did was the covid season. So really this past season was his first full season of a OPS + over 100. And people keep saying he has a weak arm. So why get him as it will probably cost 200 Million based on the current market and we have Mayer coming up. Makes zero sense to me.

I’m with you James Dansby Swanson.

Correa? I’d be surprised.

I expect one of Story, Hernandez or Andrus at SS this year…

Swanson was number one on defense according to fangraphs, last year.

#8 in 2021

#7 in 2020

#2 from 2020-2022.

Do you now pooh-pooh defensive metrics?

He's 9th on offense at SS- just behind Lindor from '20-'22.

He's durable- leading MLB in games played in 2021 and 2022.

Posted
He's ranked 11 on WRC since 2020. And that's with playing a lot more games that everyone else. His WAR is high because of his defense. His offense is nothing spectacular

No, 9th best at SS is not great, but he's also not making Seager, Turner, Bogey and soon-to-be Correa money, either.

He's 2 years younger than Bogey coming off a career year. I wouldn't be surprised if a team offers him over 200 Mil. At that point I would have preferred to keep Bogey instead of paying over 200 Mil for him

I totally understand. I like the bigger percent of years falling in primes. Swanson won't be getting 11 years nor $25M+ AAV. It's close, to me, but we'll see what Swanson gets.

My guess is we go Andrus or sign Segura to play 2B and move Story to SS for one year.

I dunno, this market is crazy. It wouldn't shock me if he fetched that. At this point I'd probably prefer Andrus to bridge to Mayer.

Heaney signs with Rangers: $12M w $5M in incentives and option for $13M in '24 w $500K buyout.

Another player that the Sox showed "interest" in is gone. This one, I'm fine with him going elsewhere.

I think our chances at landing Swanson are less than 1%- Correa less than .05%.

Anrus or Segura maybe 30-33%?

If you had to choose from only these remaining options, which do you take?

A. Senga, Gallo, Andrus

B. Senga, Conforto, Andrus

C. Swanson & Nate

D. Swanson, Kluber & Mancini

E, Swanson, Wacha & Vaz

F, Nate, Conforto & Andrus

G. Nate, Gallo & Andrus

H. Kluber, Conforto/Gallo, Andrus & Vaz

The qualifying offer should depress the market for Nathan Eovaldi.

We actually lose the pick we'd get for Nate signing elsewhere, if we sign him, though.

I think I like B, but I'm not sure that can be done for under $43M,

I don't think we sign Swanson. I didn't even put a Correa option out there. He'd take up most of the $43M (maybe Correa & Wacha or Correa & Vaz.)

Under the new CBA the compensatory draft pick for Nathan Eovaldi would come after the fourth round.

Yup. Not great, but here are our last seven 4th rounders:

Chase Meidroth

Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (Nathan Hickey in 5th Rd.)

Shane Drohan

Noah Song

Kole Cottam (Thad Ward)

Jake Thompson

Bobby Dalbec

One could say they were better than our 2nd and 3rd rounders most years.

So, he didn't get 7 years or $20+M as some reports said he was seeking.

This seems like a deal the Sox might have/should have topped.

The contract has an opt out after 2025.

Are you sure that wasn't Rodon? Because that's exactly what he is reportedly looking for.

Columnist Rob Bradford at WEEI reports that Nathan Eovaldi is not a priority for the Red Sox:

Manaea off the books. Signs with the Giants

I would not have minded Sideshow Bob had the Sox signed him…

Manaea was terrible last season.

Career FIP of 4.07 and good for 160 IP every year. He’s no ace but he’s not exactly useless either…
