Nimmo is off the board. Staying with the Mets forthe next 8 years for $162mill.

My 7/160 wasn’t too far off

I expected more, after watching the last few days unfold.

Sox could have afforded $168/8.

I find it you look at MLBTR predictions at add 2-3 years and $50-80mill, that wins to being about right…

I don't think Nimmo's deal is as much an overpay as many others, recently.

No signings are overpays anymore. Working fans have always been obsessed with athletes' salaries since the beginning of professional sports. In baseball, the numbers will always be insane, but good teams always pay good money for good players.

Clubs that want to spend less have no choice but to hope their prospects develop into big leaguers. This explains the noticeable lack of multi-player trades, because no GM wants to part with young MLB-ready guys. The A's are going nowhere, but wouldn't trade Murphy to the Cardinals unless they got back both Nootbar and Donovan.

Some franchises (and CBOs) may get desperate -- and trades for cost-controlled regulars are where the true overpays will take place. Just hang on to Miguel Bleis...

Nimmo was on my early offseason wish list, but the more I thought about it, the more I hated it.

Not sure 168:8 gets it done. I’m not sure $6 million is enough to take him away from NY. We saw Judge leave $40 million on the table.

Nimmo. Who is 30 next year, has played in over 100 games twice. He gets injured, and has a skill set that looks poised to age like Jacoby Ellsbury.

It's all Monopoly money for these GMs, but at least with Nimmo, the AAV was about what was expected. The added 2-3 years was the surprise.

I'd have done it and traded Dugo.

I liked Nimmo, despite that he’s a freakish Conspiracy Theorist, but I didn’t think the Sox would sign another FA with a QO attached so quickly…

The 2-3 years bothers me more than the money.

I don’t care if the players have to choose between domestic and imported caviar; I just don’t want them sticking around for years after they’ve lost the ability to catch up to (or throw) a good fastball…

I wasn't all in on Nimmo either. Figured he'd be back with the Mets no matter what.

The length of contracts this offseason is surprising to say the least. I wonder what things will look like 5 years from now when a lot of these guys start breaking down and clogging up space.

We said the same thing 5 years ago, but this is gotten more extreme.

Exactly. There are more players with LOOOONG contracts taking up a higher % of the payroll across the league.

Apparently, other GMs are "not learning lessons," either.

I'm not trying to shield the Sox top brass from criticism. They deserve it, but what some of these other GMs (and owners) are doing is just plain insane in the brain.

I didn't realize he was a conspiracy theorist. I'm going to have to look that up, trusting you're right here that is a hard pass for me.

It was about the Mets not messing with crosstown Judge.

He reports has some issues I won’t delve into as they are largely political and that’s a taboo on this forum.

As he’s probably not the only MLB player with them, I have no issues looking past them. Especially since he has a solid baseball skill set…

Enlighten us.

Reportedly he has vocalized his doubts about the 2020 presidential election.

Not a rabbit hole for deep discussion. And he’s probably not the only player with such beliefs…

I see why you did not want to divulge.

Glad he's a Met.

Strahm signs with Phillies for $15M/2.

That was a good signing by Bloom, last winter, but someone will think it was so bad he "let him walk."

We got him for $3M/1. DD paid $15M/2. Hurray for DD!!!!

Any chance we sign 2 from the top 23 still left?

More likely 1 plus Kluber, 1 plus Conforto/Gallo or 1 plus Andrus.
