Cora should be fired for not benching Devers!

I'm glad for Devers and especially the team--But which is the smaller sample, last night and tonight (5 ABs) or his prior 24 ABs'. Where the f*** was he all of August when the team had a shot ( still do, yes). Sitting him would not have been a cure-all but is not out of the norm, even by Cora in the past. The point is he needed an intervention internally or from the coaching staff. I surely hope he got it and continues to do well. Then they should sign him to a keeper contract with some form of outs.

At this point I would classify Devers as a 3.5 tool player. Could easily become a full 4 tool player.

He is almost as serious about his defense as Bogey is and a terrific young player who really wants to win. Thus my comment I think he's playing with a limp. But JH might not want to spend big to keep him.

Way back on page one of this game thread someone said this lineup is what should have been it all along (well, recently since Arroyo came back with a new bat). Good call, I'd say.

One thing that we all thought of was highly evident in Dever's run from 2nd to home , including no attempt to think of a slide (if needed). The hamstring is tight and is sore causing a hitch in his git-along. That has to have altered his thoughts at bat for all of August. Did he need ten days to rest in lieu of a month of poor hitting ?

I do believe the Sox have finally found a team that is worse than they are!

The Rangers offense is respectable. Their starting pitching has been decimated by injuries. And there's more than a few worse teams than the SOX in MLB this season.

Come on, Splendid Splinter lead us to a genuine 10 win run. Get us well over .500. Tonight's lineup looks like one that should been in place all season

.

It's fun when they win

Devers' defense has improved immensely. And he is 'valuable' at hitting. Very valuable.

Ted Williams was a two tool player if you don't subtract for his weak defense. But he was a sure fire HOF'er in his first year.

Hitters get the big bucks. Nevertheless, I agree with redsoxrules because the money is guaranteed up front and very few players earn those later bucks and some players just crap out.

Seven right bats against Texas lefty starter Keuchel, who might not last long.
Not a bad call either, by Max

Meh.

I will say I'm delighted to see Arroyo at first base and hope he keeps it up. If the does, better him than one of those old guys I've heard mentioned. He is absolutely awful in the outfield, but pretty darn good anywhere in the infield. If Bogey stays, Arroyo gets 1B. If Bogey goes, Arroyo maybe goes to 2b or SS.

Was watching longest HR's today on youtube. Both Ortiz and Manny hit one HR at Fenway that traveled over 500 feet. The longest accurately measured was hit by Dave Kingman 520 feet. I'm pretty sure the wind may have been blowing toward LF that day at Wrigley. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

Good point. But he's still limping but now is hitting like a house afire. Thanks for saying hamstring because I clean forgot that's what it is.

If one shakes a baseball tree, 9 gloves and 1 bat will fall to the ground.

Good/great defense is the poetry of baseball. Hitting and pitching, the core of every game, can be prosaic. Defense also affects the pitching--not all earned runs are earned--and think has played a role this season.

Bogey ran that infield bouncer out with more energy and intent than a September callup anxious to get his one entry into Baseball Reference. He deserves whatever he gets from whichever team

Baseball is an individual sport that just happens to be played on a team. Nowhere to hide in baseball.

Your heart is absolutely in the right place, but I hope the Sox keep him and Raffy for packages that are almost affordable.
