Note: Tavares in CF made a terrible break (back first, then in) and could/should have dived for that. What did he have to lose? I thought for a moment we had traded Duran to Texas

I assume you skipped Ohtani because he has 6 tools, maybe more

He doesn't play defense. I'm referring to the traditional 5 tool requirements. 1)hits 2)hits with power 3)excellent defense 4)strong arm and 5)speed.

The only proven MLB 5 tool players I'm aware of that are playing today are Trout and Betts. Can anyone think of any others?

I like 2 tool players like Ohtani: He can hit and pitch.

Posted
Yes, he actually does. He has 11 this year in addition to his 30 HRs and 82 rbi's so far. Oh yeah, he has 11 pitching wins and a 2.78 ERA on a way sub .500 team. He is the real deal and will be looking at a $500K/12 year deal after 2023

He actually played RF in 2021 when the Angels lost a couple guys to injury, one of them the IL'ed Trout

Seeing that he's 28, do you think he might take 400mil for 10 years?

I would put Aaron Judge in that category because I've seen him make some great plays in the outfield and some really good throws. But his DWAR's lately haven't been that great. He has 3 more SB's this year than Mookie.

The 5th tool "speed' is unclear. I'm not sure it just weighs that heavily on stolen bases.

Cora seems to be working magic with that bullpen. All the right moves. But, despite my incessant griping about the, the players deserve the credit.

Why did he pull Pivetta after 50 pitches?

Well, except for a phenom like JBJ, I think most excellent outfielders need to have good wheels as well as a good eye and good arm. I think speed is an appropriate 5th tool.

I think one of the questions for teams east of the Pacific Time Zone is whether Ohtani wants to be away from the West Coast. New York ( Mets/Yankees) will probably be interested but so will the Dodgers, maybe Giants.

I'm no fan of the Rangers, their manager, or Keuchel, but, despite the Sox 4 runs, I too would have sent him out to pitch the 5th. His stuff has been working.

Pivetta got walloped in the calf with a hot shot to the mound, got the out but could barely walk himself back to the dugout/clubhouse. It could be a nasty contusion.

JBJ had the gift of getting excellent jumps on fly balls. I wouldn't describe him having exceptional speed.

He also had a decent arm, which is why every now and then he played RF. But every year his DWAR's have been in negative territory. He's never had much speed.

This young guy Rafael D may have a future somewhere. Notice that he has adjusted his swing from violent hacks to smooth swings going both directions, using the whole field. Somebody got to his head and the results are great.

He had a long stride that made his speed look deceiving, but no, he wasn't all that fast.

Do what, Max ? It's all a crapshoot and crapshooters play the game

Devers' delivery service appears to be back in business.

You think? My goodness gracious!!!

Is it my imagination or is he limping a little?

JDM on 2d base with an rbi double. Cora strikes again.
