Meh. I agree Whitlock and Schreiber have been vastly better, but right now Barnes and Brasier are needed. Brasier gave up 5 in the the 15-10 debacle and 2 more vs. the Braves, but in 9 other stints in August has given up no earned runs. Barnes ERA for August is 2.16. That's why both pitched last night in a game the Sox could have won--and didn't lose until the Jays scored in the 10th.

And aside from the giant shark, three guys were having fun and getting drunk on the Orca.....

You are ace of the spoiled brats. JDM and Bogaerts are absolutely not brain dead. Both were key to the 2018 108 wins and then a World Series--plus Bogey played 3b in the 2013 WS win. This is Bogey's best defensive season--as measured by his DWAR--ever. But both are in slumps, and JDM has simply had a terrible season.

You want brain dead, look at Vazquez's baserunning this year and last. Also the defensive lapses in the outfield this season--and at 1b.

The defense has almost certainly hurt the pitching--despite pretty good play by Bogey and Story (and sometimes Devers)--but the real problem this year is the injuries to the rotation and the bullpen. Because of those injuries, the Sox ERA of 4.47 is 14th of 15 teams in the AL.

I tell you that the team is playing brain dead this year and you tell me how great they were in previous years. How many HRs and RBIs do Martinez and Bogaerts have?

I agree with you about some of the idiotic plays in the OF-not to mention the baserunning mistakes and dumb fielding plays (case in point : Crawford throwing the ball away tonight on a play he had no chance to make).

Yes.

Brain dead baseball.

This year.

2022.

The team needs a near total makeover from the GM to the manager to 70% of the players-and probably the owner too. If Henry wants to pinch pennies because his $3.5b net worth isn’t enough money for him to live on let him do it somewhere else.

MOON and Max. Presidents of the Dislike Vaz Club. That's fine because I'm running for president of the Dislike Cora Club. Cora also has had his share of brain-dead moments.

The difference between me and MOON/Max is I won't continue to bash Cora after he's gone.

How to forget the chicken and beer gate lol

I remember that A700 and I predicted the collapse in August and everyone here went to our neck and the rest is history.

Ummm, the collapse started before August. (4-13 to end July)

You guys are real fortune tellers!

How about the posters going after the necks of those who wanted a sell-off of all free agents-to-be players?

I continuously bashed Vaz for one thing and often said he was a net plus and did not want Leon or Plawecki taking away his starting role.

The guy was a good hitting catcher. He did some defensive things pretty well, too.

I just didn't like how he handled the staff, and you can see how much better they are doing, once he left. (LOL)

You've more than made up for it, pre-firing.

And, BTW, my last comment was mocking the Vaz jock holders, not Vaz.

Hold your breath, Sawamura is going to pitch with his pony tail hair. Edited by iortiz

well at the time nobody thought that the team was going to collapse entering August. In fact, I won several bets here regarding the collapse that I never cashed btw lol

Big Papi, wouldn't I still have to hold my breath even if he didn't have the pony tail?

yeah but look closely. When he wears his pony tail, it distracts him a lot between pitches.

Okay. You found a couple optimistic fans.

The team was 8-19 in July.

They are 9-12 in August.

Maybe I'm just arguing semantics, but a team going 8-19 has already entered the "collapse" territory, and one could view 9-12 as maybe coming out of it a tiny bit.

Anyway, kudos! You guys are great!

I'll bet you 100 bucks the SOX don't re-sign Bogey only if you promise not to collect if I'm wrong.

Toronto has Bass; the Angels have Trout; and the SOX a while back had Carp.

And seattle has a ray.....

LOL!

I don't think they are going to resign XB either. The only way he stays IMO is that he does not opt out.

I know he has a checkered past, but when McGuire comes up he’s been able to make good things happen…

I stand by this…

Now it could look like kind of "obvious" (and still), but at the time, nobody thought that they were going to "officially" collapse in August and September. Most of the board thought we were nuts lol
