Interesting stat. The Red Sox and the Jay's are the only 2 teams that have a winning record vs Houston with minimum 4 games played. But yet this team can't beat anyone in the AL east

McGuire and Pham are the two Red Sox hits so far today (6 innings). Just think where we would be without those moves. Yeah, watching a no-hitter

I know it's a small sample size, but first impression is that mcguire can't handle the sox staff......

In the 6th inning, Man on first, no outs and Sanchez is in an 0-25 skid. Astros have shift on. Can someone tell me why Sanchez isn't bunting to no one at third base? He is a punch and judy hitter anyway. Dumb baseball.

RIP Vin Scully

The gold standard for baseball play-by-play.

Met him in St.Louis some 20 years ago outside of the Dodger hotel. He was very nice and signed a ball for my son. Class act.

McGuire needs to work on his launch angle to get it over the fence

I believe the reports have stated that he's been working on that, in his car.....

Almost jacked one out

Maybe if he had pulled it a little harder he could have squirted it around the pesky pole.....

Vaz is slumping badly (0-5 as an Astro). Good move, our new catcher has 2 hits

True, but the sox have let up six runs.

Maybe the pitchers are just more confident in the way vaz handled the staff.

Nice little run but at the end of the day it's a .500 team . The next couple weeks do provide an opportunity to get about 5 over depending on the ability to dominate the Royals and pirates and, oh yeah, beat the Orioles. 11 games against weaker teams and only 5 vs Braves/NYY.

We won a series vs a winning team!

It looks like Bloom was right not selling. You can really tell how happy he made all the typical Sox fans keeping all the big boys.

Too bad the SOX lost today. Would have been nice to have momentum going into KC to play 4 against the tough Royals.

If good Pivetta shows up tomorrow, there’s momentum. If bad Pivetta shows up, today didn’t matter.

I’d have liked a bullpen arm…

Bloom probably viewed the return of pitchers from the IL as the pen calvary.

It certainly was a strange deadline for the Sox. I'm not sure any fans are totally happy about what went down.

Maybe that's impossible, anyway.

I think there's more to it. One is of course this season. Another could be not much was offered for the "big boys." Another could be the Sox can make better decisions and deals for next year in the postseason.

I understand why they did not trade players we can't trade this winter, because their control expires, but it doesn't mean I have to like the idea.

We aren't winning it all this year. To me, that's what matters. I don't own the team. I don't have to make fans happy. I don't have to sell season tickets. I fully understand why we didn't trade JD, Nate, Hill and maybe the others on the IL for the best we could get, even if it was scraps, but I'd rather we tried to improve our future than follow a pipe dream.

We were able to trade Diekman, so I wonder what the offers were. Could we have traded JBJ?

Either way, we pretty much have the same team with some tweaks and guys coming off the IL. I'm going to follow the pipedream and hope for a miracle. Lord knows, I've been wrong enough about this team, already, so maybe the biggest mistake will be the team winning and maybe even making and advancing in the playoffs.

We're not far from the last WC slot, and some teams ahead of us sold off key parts to their teams. I'm not sure, if we'll see Wacha, Kike, Strahm, Sale and Paxton, this year, and maybe Barnes or someone else will join the club and give us a boost.

It seems many posters feel like we are just 1-3 key players away from a strong run, so maybe those three will be 3 from Hill, Nate, Wacha, Sale, Paxton, Hosmer, Pham, Casas, Crawford, Wink or a surprise player.

I'm going to watch every game and root like hell we win. The last 4 games have been a good sign. Maybe the trades will shake up the remaining players.

GO SOX!!!

Wouldn't something be better than nothing?

Because Red Sox management is being talked about as an inclusive, collaborative effort with Chaim as the committee chair , the retention of JDM and Eovaldi, if not others, even for small talents, can be explained . I think what we do not know is the extent of the strings attached to Bloom by Kennedy, Henry, and other influencers who MIGHT have said, keep Julio and Nathan we can't stand the heat from the fans

Bloom has now tacitly acknowledged the blunder of the JBJr mistake. Even if you say that JBJr's role was to simply be the 4th OF'er/late inning D, there was no excuse for picking up that contract vs spending the same for another FA. Of course, Bloom did not know that Kike would be a bust both when he played and lead off and since he has spent months on the IL, exposing JBJr in a bad way, and indirectly causing reliance on Cordero as a regular. Sale is a whole other story on the pitching side.

To those who think a WC #3 ( a chip and a chair ?) could lead to a post season run like 2021 , I get that the postseason is a crapshoot. But this team, and particularly its IL issues, do not breed confidence in a run to the Series.

It was a great little run, but I entirely agree the way ahead is fraught with peril--

--The team ERA is ranked 14th in the AL, plus Wacha and Sale are still on the IL, the bad Hill showed up last night, inconsistent Pivetta is back. Thanks to Whitlock, Houck, and Schreiber, I am less worried about the bullpen than I was.

--The hitting is soft, inconsistent--despite having scored the 3d most runs in the AL and having the 5th best team OPS.

--The baserunning has been lousy--an accumulation of dumb moves has led to an overabundance of cautions (which, however, is somewhat justified by a lack of team speed and not having the ability to sense/know when to gamble and when not).

--The outfield defense leaves much to be desired. Story is definitely missed at 2d base.
