At 3 mil/yr he's a bargain at today's prices.[/quote

What an amazing game to be at Fenway!

The roof just about came off with Dugo’s walk off hit, and watching all the dejected yankee fans leave the stadium was blissful

In this series, we used 3 triple a pitchers and did not get swept. That was a whale of a game.

Crawford stepped up and gave us a decent start.

Other than Brasier & Deek, our pen did well.

Pretty amazing that 4 of the biggest stars of the game were Crawford, Downs, Refsnyder and Dalbec. (Verdugo, Schreiber and Houck, too.)

On a downer note, Story went 0-4 and left 5 men on base.

Good starting pitching to start the game, and good clutch hitting to tie, and win the game against a good Yankee BP. Quite a night, and quite a momentum shift from going 0-3 to a chance to tie up the series tonight.

Remember that night at Fenway in July '22 when the WooSox came from behind to beat the almighty Yankees!

Looking at sports pages of three big city newspapers, expecting an obvious headline... but instead, the first two words of each were cliche: Yankees lose... Yankees stunned... Yankees blow...

Is is possible editors are banned from offending an icon? Is this so sacrilege: Jeter Downs New York

The one issue with Holmes is he doesn’t K people like Chap does. Holmes gets an 80% GB rate and K’s 1 per inning. Coming in with a runner in scoring position means he needs only a ground ball to go through to tie the game and that’s what happened.

King was lights out up to the double. I didn’t think he needed to be pulled, but so be it.

Wandy did not have it last night. Too many balls middle middle. Tonight’s another night, so be it

Just read that Downs didn't find out he was needed in Boston until about 5:30 PM yesterday. Had to jump in his car and hot-tail it from Worcester, and naturally had to negotiate some tricky traffic on the way. Classic stuff.

Wow! With the way things turned out he should have gotten a police escort like Mirabelli did years ago.

Boy, do I remember that police escort like it happened yesterday. When your knuckleballer actually does get guys out, he also gets the catcher who can, well, catch him--even if Mirabelli has already been traded and is on, I think, the West freaking Coast.

Also, while I agree the Sox had a bunch of heroes last night, they did have help. Once in a blue moon, when the Sox are down and times are tough, I bring my wife of 58 years into the study to touch the TV, which she did last night right after the Sox tied it in the 8th. :)

We have now seen two recent games--the other was the 4-0 bullpen shutout of the Rays--in which the Sox have really pulled one out when least expected. In both games Crawford pitched 5 good innings.

Speaking of whom, watching him again last night against a very good Yankees lineup (best in MLB), I saw two things that impressed me: that big curve and pretty good command of his pitches.

And what continues to impress me about most of the Yankees pitching staff is their ability to keep the ball low, but still tempting and/or capable of being called a strike.

A big shout out to REF, also. Hopefully, Cora will play him everyday until Ref proves he isn't worthy.

Ref on the bench today for JBJ, and Duran. I guess he doesn’t hit RHP good enough for Cora.

I feel bad for Ref. Obviously, he's stuck with the wrong manager.

He's on the short side of the platoon, but the weird thing is, he has 41 PAs v RHPs and 33 v LHPs.

He's started 8 games v LHPs and 6 v RHPs.

Pertinent splits:

v R

.977 Duran

.724 Ref

.712 Dugo

.586 JBJ

.544 Kike

v L

1.252 Ref

.828 Kike

.712 Dugo

.489 JBJ

.341 Duran
