Dugo's habit of trotting to 1st on grounders sucks. Certain managers in the old days would bench a player for that shite. But this is the new baseball.

Devers also does it; it's not a good look, but if Cora doesn't mind, why should I?

I wonder if Cora has had an epiphany and now realizes that Ref is a better hitter than JBJ, and that Ref s/b the everyday RF.

Let's not get carried away. While ref has certainly performed well this year in a very small sample size, jbj has a higher career OPS+

I'm talking about the present not the past. If Ref over a larger sample size proves he's not hitting any better than JBJ, then Cora will have to go to another plan. But hitting better than JBJ is a low bar.

Dugo is a hot dog, and of average ability

I agree that you go with who is performing better right now. And I've never really been a big fan of jbj.

So tired of 2 out routine ground-balls scoring runs due to shifts

Tonight it sure looks as though Jays are hitting away from the shifts and the Sox are hitting into them.

Weird game. Arroyo pops it foul 2 feet further and Guerrero Jr. doesn’t make that catch; who knows what happens from there. Contrast with the first inning, Chapman fouls it 6 inches less, Cordero makes the catch and the 2 run double never happens. Heck, does the 6’4” Dalbec make that catch vs. the 6’3” Cordero.

Plus how many ground ball hits can the Jays get?

They seem to have done a lot of that vs. the Sox this year.

Wacha is only human. He was due for a bad start. Happens to the best pitchers.

I was going to quote my negative comments, but I'll quote you instead.

Wacha gave up 3 runs in the 1st, and I went ballistic. He's now gone 4 more innings giving up 1 run. He has battled back. He has showed some grit, and in a big game like this that gets major points with me.

I might add the defensive outfield stinks. Refsnyder not so bad, but the other two like to, what's that word?--lollygaggle. Early in the Jays game one of their guys hit a single to right center and slowed down going to 1b until he saw how Arroyo was approaching that ball with the utmost caution and minimum aggressiveness. So he took 2b and later scored.

The Sox have had some hard hit shots caught, but I care about results--like they are (no surprise here) 0 for 5 with RISP.

Indeed, the Jays defense looks very professional, very engaged, and a whole lot faster than our Sox defense.

In their 7-15 East record Sox have averaged 3.5 runs/game. Last night and this game to date will lower that
