Kind of weird for me to see Cody Sedlock make his major league debut for the Orioles today; he was a high school classmate of my younger son (Alleman High School Class of 2013).

That's cool! I think it has been well established on here that I am from the same small HS in Connecticut that produced AJ Pollock of the White Sox. We are not from the same town; the HS is regional

I’m not entirely sure they should…

Big difference between tacking on an xtra year on his existing contract for $30M, which would make it 4/90 then 9/225. Which sounds more like the Red Sox?

Not the point.

I’m just saying they shouldn’t give 30yo Bogaerts a 9 year contract at a $25mill AAV…

Much more impressive than my high school’s alumni of Chris Colabello…

I don’t remember anyone on here saying they should. I want him resigned, but 6yrs at the max.

That’s exactly what SS said they did. Possible the name in the report was wrong. All I’m saying is it would be a dumb offer to make…

I don’t think there is anyway the Sox would offer Bogey a 9yr contract at this point.

For 220M I think they would. That lowers the AAV. Kinda of what they did with Pedroia when he got the 8 year deal at age 29

...and then people complained, bitterly, about the Pedey deal, once he got hurt.

And that’s why I’m against giving out those long term contracts going into a players late 30’s rather it’s to lower the AAV, or not. Trout has been hurt a lot now, and probably will even more going through his 30’s.

His current AAV is $20mill. $220mill over 9 has an AAV of $24.4mill. And for 9 years, until Bogaerts turns 29.

I could see offering that to Devers. But I’d be very surprised if he accepted.

Now if they did offer that to Devers, reportedly he said the Sox were about $100mill off. So if Devers wants about $320mill, over how many years? $320mill over 9 years is an AAV of $35.5mill. That destroys the contract Mookie got. Is Devers going to get Beyond Mookie Money from Boston? From anyone?

Pedroia’s contact was $110mill for 8. AAV of $13.75 mill. Not in the same category at all. Heck, the Bogaerts offer of $90mill over 4 is approaching double the AAV of Pedroia’s deal…

And many insisted he should retire and free up that $13.75mill AAV for the Sox to give to someone else…

One of the problems is every year salaries always go up (unless there's collusion), so it's inevitable that eventually someone not as good as Mookie will sign for more than Mookie. It's not all about respect; a parent has to be able to afford the cost of baby formula...

Devers at his age and his level of accomplishments already deserves a top of the market paycheck. Somebody will definitely give it to him, and if it's not Boston, a lot of Red Sox fans won't be thrilled to see the savings spent on other players with lesser abilities.

So, build the team with mid range contracts like Kike, Wacha, Hill and Strahm, and hope we don't get Perez, Richards, Marwin and Andriese?

Build the team with a farm you feel has no value until they start contributing?

What's your blueprint to success?

He will likely take less than what he asked for. All players do.

Inflation has to be figured in when comparing contracts to Pedey and even the recent Betts deal.

I think Devers would take $280M/10 starting with the 2023 season.

We could try offering $280M/11 or 12, and then fall back to $280M/10 or even $300M/10.

I don't think he's demanding a Betts contract.

Everyone goes Ga Ga over the farm, but what are they until they produce in a Red Sox uniform, or traded foe someone who does, but unless those two things happen they are just the farm, nothing more, and nothing less. Having said that you do need to have the farm produce some, because you just can’t go out, and buy a team. The 2018 team had plenty of help from the farm. I’m for keeping all of the Bogey, Raffy, Story, and even JD for the right price, and years, and hopefully at least Cases can produce soon, and then fill with mid level, and hopefully some pitching can come up, and help. If not the team won’t get much better, because you can’t count on Frail, and you still don’t know what you will get from Houck, and Whitlock. Pitching is always the key. Evol would be brought back too for the right price. Duran could hit 400 for the Woo Sox, but how does that helps the Red Sox unless some other team likes him enough to trade the Sox some young pitcher for, or is thrown in as part of a trade.

Bloom since 2019 has taken a bottom feeding farm system and turned it into a top ten system. His moves last season allowed the SOX to play in the ALCS, in what was supposed to be a 'rebuilding' year. Speaking for myself, I trust Bloom. His history with Tampa speaks for itself.

It would lower the AAV comparing to what he will get on the market he's getting minimum 25 a year if not 30 if he tests the market

Nick and EO and 3 days of OH NO!

Whitlock has done pretty good, since becoming a starter, but yes, not so great, lately.

Wacha was on a role, until he got hurt. He did fine his first start back, and has just one bad start all year. I'm not sure he's an "uh-Oh."

Rich Hill looked good in his last start. He has a 2.77 ERA in his previous 6 starts, but I guess a starter is only as good as his last start.

Part of the 'OH NO' is that with those 3 the BP will most likely be called upon in the 5th inning or sooner.
