Hey he’s basically a freebie since the Mets will be paying for him once he clears waivers (which he absolutely will).

 

He has very limited 1b experience and his .501 OPS does look more like problem than solution…

Conforto is injured and may be out for the year. Cano has a history of being a good hitter . I think he would be worth a shot if you don't mind his history of cheating. There is really nothing to lose. And possibly a lot to gain.

Just say no. Not only does he have the PED stigma, but he's notorious for a lack of hustle. In fact I think his last Mets hit was a single that should have been a double, but he got thrown out at second because he didn't run hard enough.

I take it that Cano if picked up he would be a 1B candidate. How many guys have the Red Sox tried at that position, and how many were actual 1B, and not someone masquerading as one like Flintstone Schwaber, or Franchy, or Arroyo. A big payroll club should be able to do better than that, so call it what you like, but I call it pretty inept.

Cano has a 397 OPS with San Diego so far. That's an ice cold -10 wRC+.
