Not interested. He's 39. I'm not sure he adds anything to this team right now. If he's just filling in at 1b, I don't see the point.

Considering their production at first base, or lack thereof, it might be worth a flyer.

Just call up Casas. He won't be any more expensive than Cano.

If Casas is in the immediate future, no point.

While I do have faith Cano can outhit Dalbec, I think that bar is pretty low…

He’d fit right in with a below 200 BA.

2018 - 2021 Cano

Most HR in a season: 13

Most RBI in a season: 50

Most R in a season: 46

I'm not sure we need more mediocre options. Do we just want to keep treading water?

Don’t even d to look that deep.

Heck, Michael Conforto and Trevor Rosenthal have been available all season long.

(And when does any team agree to a one-year pillow deal with Conforto? He can’t be retiring already.)

Conforto is injured and may be out for the year. Cano has a history of being a good hitter . I think he would be worth a shot if you don't mind his history of cheating. There is really nothing to lose. And possibly a lot to gain.

A BIG market team, which the Red Sox supposedly are shouldn’t have to do something like this, bit I agree at the moment unless Casas is coming up tomorrow there is nothing to lose.

Just say no. Not only does he have the PED stigma, but he's notorious for a lack of hustle. In fact I think his last Mets hit was a single that should have been a double, but he got thrown out at second because he didn't run hard enough.

For a second I thought you were talking about manny.:o

It has nothing to do with market size. If we play the “big market” game, the Sox shouldn’t have had to fill their DH role back in 2003 with some guy the Twins released.

If Cano can hit, he’s worth signing. The little evidence this season has given to date is not positive, however…

Manny always managed to drown out complaints about lack of hustle with his numbers.

That evidence includes the Mets eating $40 mill to be rid of him.

A DFA can inspire some hustle.

But really, at this point is he any better than Dalbec? This isn’t Cano c. 2010 the Sox would be signing …

His stints with the rays and the chisox say otherwise......

I take it that Cano if picked up he would be a 1B candidate. How many guys have the Red Sox tried at that position, and how many were actual 1B, and not someone masquerading as one like Flintstone Schwaber, or Franchy, or Arroyo. A big payroll club should be able to do better than that, so call it what you like, but I call it pretty inept.

The Yankees will take him back and retire his number with a lot of the other sub-par players hanging in there, they love duds

That's rich, you basically just described the 2022 red sox lineup outside of bogey, devers and jd.......
