I'm wondering about German or even Murphy. Service time questions?

Murphy had a rough time, tonight:

6.2 IP

5 H

4 ER

5 BB

5 K

ERA is now 4.17.

Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless/hitless 9th with 3K and 0 BB.

Rafaela is at .869 in POR.

A guy named Franchy Cordero is having a big night with Woo (3 for 3). Maybe we should call him up! Can he play 1B? How hard can it be?

Enmanuel Valdez is continuing his tearing up of AAA, after hitting 1.112 in AA (205 PAs). He was hitting .907, here in Sugar Land in 173 PAs. Tonight, he has 2 taters, already, and is 3 for 4.

Almonte has a tater, too. (A guy Bloom traded cash for, recently.)

Maybe, the best news of the night is Mata going 6 IP for POR, allowing just 5 hits and no walks. 0 ER and 6 Ks.

I didn’t know Valdez was in the Red Sox lineup last night.

He might be soon. Yolmer Sanchez has glove, but no O game. Valdez has a 1.043 OPS since joining the WooSox…

Eventually, some players doing well in the minors actually do well in the bigs.

I'm not sure why some seem to be against adding good prospects.

While increasing potential value might amount to nothing, isn't that the way farms are supposed to be improved?

Is there some other way to do it I'm not aware of?

Sure, talk the talk of developing pitchers in better ways, identify draftees in better ways, and other areas, and all we can hope for is that we are trying to and actually improving in those areas, but adding promising prospects should be viewed as a good thing.

BTW, we've had some recent successes with pitching prospects: Houck, Whitlock, Wickowski, Crawford and some flashes of promise from Bello.

If Valdez can fill in for Story this year, it will make the Vazquez trade look better…

Or, he could be a 2B option, next year and beyond, as Story moves to SS.

Or, he just becomes a utility/DH type player.

Or, he never makes a dent in the bigs.

The more choices you have, the better odds one or more come through.

I would like to start seeing more quality over quantity, but the quantity method has merit, too, especially when you started out with a bottom 5 farm.

Reportedly he’s not much on defense, but he is a hitter.

I think he settles into an MLB bench role.

The one thing I really like about him if he’s a huge Red Sox fan…

Meaningless until he does it in Boston.

Winkleman with his best game of the year. Six innings pitched. Zero runs, zero hits, one walk and five strike outs.

Bout time. I had high hopes for him going into this season.

Young pitchers struggle with command and control. I expect more good and bad days from winkleman in the future.

soxprospects has Wilyer Abreu as being Rule 5 eligible, this winter, but the do not have Enmanuel Valdez listed as eligible on any of their next 5 year lists.

Anyone know, when he is eligible?

He looks like a sure protectee, if it's this winter. (Not sure Abreu is.)

I'm really liking the talent that is likely to be added to our 40 man roster, this winter. We may have someone taken from us, if we fail to protect some of our borderline Rule 5 protectees.
