Woo won, today. Taylor opened with a scoreless 1st (1H, 1BB, 1K, 0 ER). Crawford 5 IP, 4H, 1 ER, 2BB, 4K). Feltman & Ort closed it out. Sanchez was the only one with 2 hits, but Downs went 1-3 w a BB.

POR lost one (Santos 6 IP, 4H, 4 ER, 2BB, 6K) and won one with Rafaela & Reed homering.

GRE lost 11-8 but got 2 HRs from Davis and 2 hits from Yorke.

SAL won 3-2 and got homers from Jordan and Kavadas. Jordan went 3-3 w a BB, too.

Ort seems to be pitching decently of late.

He pitched well last year too. I don't know why they didn't give him any run at all. Relievers are so fungible that I don't see the harm in giving a guy a shot. The last two 40 man spots are usually filled with nonsense anyway.

Red Sox prospect Ceddanne Rafaela went 2-for-3 was promoted to Portland on June 7. Since then, he has gone 18-for-59 (.305) with a .333 on-base percentage, .712 slugging percentage, 1.045 OPS, five homers, five doubles and two triples, 10 runs and 14 RBIs in 15 games.

I thought Rafaela would take a little step back in AA and was concerned about his k/bb rate, but damn...

He has a .302 AVG, but a .293 BABIP. :)

Part of it is a hot streat, but damn... Rocket ship time?

In Worcester, wong with his 5th tater of the season. And Stewart with his 11th tater of the season.

Seabold only pitched 1 innings. He served up a meatball and another hit and struck out 2.

Posted

Kavadas promoted to Greenville and he hit a tater in his first game there! 4 games in a row with a tater. Sadly, he has yet to get a walk at Greenville.

Davis with his 13th tater of the season!

Posted

In Salem, Mayer with his 5th tater of the season,

Garcia with his 2nd tater of the season!

Winkleman had better command and control tonight.

Sadly Kavadas has yet to walk while playing for the drive.

Like Cris Carter for the Vikes, who "all he does is score touchdowns," I think Kav is getting a bad rep for "all he does is hit home runs!"

We heard about all the taters. Here are some notes on our pitching.

AAA

Taylor 1 IP 3H 0ER (2R) 0 BB 1K

Valdez 0.2 1H 5ER 4BB 1K

Feltman 0.1 2H 2ER 0BB 1K

AA

Murphy 6IP 1H 0ER 3BB 8K

A-

Gonzalez 4IP 3H 1ER 2BB 5K

(Mayer went 3-4 w 2B, Jordan 2-4 & Lopez 4-4)

In April Kavadas was all over the place with his swing. Almost like he was really over thinking stuff. Now he is zeroed in and hitting more reactionary, based on where he is being pitched.

At some point, pitchers will start pitching him more inside. If he can make that adjustment successfully, I think he will be ready to end the year in Portland, where he can be challenged by more refined breaking balls.

Pannone released from Worcester so he can pitch in Korea. Current (and future) rotation pieces

Bello

Walter

Murphy

Crawford

Seabold

Winkowski (after sale and eovaldi return)

It has been a pretty disappointing year for some of the Red Sox's prospects: Downs: isn't really a legitimate prospect anymore. Mayer: looks very pedestrian so far. Casas: has been hurt, probably won't be ready for the major leagues next year. Yorke: we were so high on Yorke, I'm not sure what happened to him, but maybe he will finish strong. Groome: was hoping he would take a big step forward, but that walk ratio is unacceptable, maybe a bullpen piece in the future.

On the other hand, Rafaela has been really good. Murphy has been pretty good. Duran is finally getting a chance in the majors and looks like he belongs, and Bello looks awesome. In fact, you could make the case that Bello is the Red Sox best prospect, the one that has the most trade value right now. Blaze looks really good too.

Binelas is a mixed bag, hit with power, but his defense isn't very good, and it looks like his only tool might be power. We will see how he does at AA.

Winckowski & Seabold = reason for optimism.

Lugo & German have been OK.

Soxprospects has Walter (and Mata) on the IL. I didn't hear anything about Walter, and I thought Mata was rehabbing.

Did you mean to say Casas won't be ready until next year?

German has been more than okay. His .490 OPS Against is off the charts good.

Bello, Murphy and Walter all took steps up, while Groome and Gonzalez maybe stayed even. Walter still has an insane K:BB ratio of 75:7 in under 58 IP!

Wink & Seabold have both done about as well as you can do at AAA. Now, we await their MLB fate.

I was never that high on Downs, so I wasn't shocked.

I would not say Mayer has been "pedestrian." He's at .820 after his first 156 ABs. He's got a .352 OBP and 9 SB (0 CS) in just 38 games.

Yorke has been a let down, so far, yes.

Rafaela will jump many slots on the mid season ranking lists.

Kavadas and Hickey look like gems. Jordan has stepped it up.

All-in-all, I'd say there has been more good than bad, but it's not a landslide.

Casas probably won't be ready at the start of next year. Due to the injury he will likely need more time in AAA. He can't be counted on at all this year (for the major league team) and I would want him to get more AAA work in at the beginning of next season as well.

I don't know what that means for 1b next year There is a good chance that next year's starting 1b is not on the team right now. There is a good chance that the Red Sox will have a new starting 1b after the upcoming trade deadline.

My man Wong (who should replace Vazquez as the starting C next year) gets some love from Red Sox great Rich Gedman:

As prospects, I think wong and cotham have really improved to the point of being viable major leaguers in the future. Not stars, but contributors.
