Wacha led MLB last year with starts in which he went 5+ innings with 0 runs and 1 or 0 hits.

When he’s on he’s on. This is why Bloom is better than us and why he makes championship teams with low payrolls.

They could very well see something in him they believe they can fix and make him more consistent. They’re not reading the backs of baseball cards wanting to pay guys for the past like baseball fans.

It’s 1 year, and they’re paying a 1 war pitcher about what 1 war is worth. Relax, let’s see how he does. If your cup is half empty go top yourself off and quite down; class is in session.

Why don't you think outside of the box for change?

I'm comparing season opening rotation 2021 vs 2022. Was Sale in the rotation? NO.

You don't ever consider monetary aspect of roster building. You probably want to sign Devers to long extension, no? Something has to give Old Red.

OMG, ERA as Moon has said is meaningless stats. How do you know he didn't miss many bats? Aren't you on RECORD saying you don't give a damn about analytics? Did you watch him pitch? Have you seen his miss bats numbers?

Houck and Whitlock are not replacing anybody? You do know that Houck started in 2021? Whitlock used to be a starter until his arm surgery? Sox babied him last year right?

Why not try to win without going over the luxury tax limit?

We have about $23M to buy some quality relievers if the tax stays at $210M.

You are in that group of posters always complaining about lack young starters produced by the Sox. Then you get a Whitlock and a Houck and you jettisoned them to the pen.

OMG, Why can't we have young guys in our rotation?

I agreed with everything until the end.

Do you know what jettison means? Both these young guys are already in the pen and doing great in a role that is becoming the new way staffs are being used. I get your point and it has merit, but please spare the omg stuff. It’s not absurd to think adding another top starter and keeping Houck and Whitlock in the pen is a good idea.

No one knows what the Sox will get out of Sale in 2022, and lots of people on here are just assuming he will be good again. What if he’s not? I don’t care who was in the rotation to start 2021, but who finished in the rotation in 2021, and Sale was in it, so spin it anyway you want.

As for Devers I have said I would not give out any $300M contracts to anybody, but if you are going to extend him you’d better do it now, because he gets more expensive every day, and the same with Bogey.

I know all about Houck being good at times, and just as bad at times. Very inconsistent. As for Whitlock nobody knows what he would do as a major league starter, and I just think you’d be taking a big risk starting both next year.

All this back, and forth over Whack a, because that’s all the Sox have done.

Sale could give us 100-150 more innings, so one could view that as coming close to replacing ERod, but it still leaves a slot open. I doubt Bloom is done, so I’m waiting to grade Bloom for the winter.

What if he doesn’t, and sucks next year? What then?

Posted
Well, you only mentioned ERA and him not missing bats when he actually has a very good missed bat rate, but you don’t want to hear about analytics.

I doubt many view Wacha as ERod’s replacement, and if Bloom does, then you will not be alone in thinking we will be worse, next year with our rotation.

Who knows more about pitching? Tampa, or Boston? Tampa didn’t want this guy back.

Look, everybody thought there was no way we could win without ERod and Sale doing very well, this year.

Maybe someone else picks up the slack. Maybe not and we suck. That’s baseball.

You go off expectations and hopes.

Bloom is not done, but your posts have a hint of finality to them.

You know I don’t give a damm about all this analytics stuff, so I just threw stuff out there just to get all you guys that do into a tizzy, and another plan came together. This is all the Sox have done so far, so stir up some hate, and discontent over a guy like Whack a is just amazing.

You have no idea, if Tampa wants him or not.

Hell, they acquired him after the same type season.

They can’t even pay Snell. You think they didn’t “want” him?

They can’t even afford to pay Wacha $3.5M.

Dude. Nobody is stirring up hate. The most emotional poster over a minor and early signing is you.

No disrespect intended.

Now where did I say that Whack a was all that Bloom was going to do? This to me was just a bad start. Over analyzing again Moon.

I’m not emotional, but you guys think you all have to defend Bloom. Minor signing it was, but I think the $7M could be put to better use.

Has Whack a pitched in Boston? Has Whack a won in Boston?

So, back to ERA- a horrible stat to use in isolation.

You use onlyERA and now throw it back in our faces.

Look, you don’t have convince anyone Wacha is a long shot. Yes, some are trying to spin this as best they can while you and others spin the opposite.

Let the winter play out.

They didn’t want to, and unlike the Sox will put the money to BETTER use.

Hmmm, who won the ALCS between Boston and Tampa this year?

Oh, so now you're getting all fancy with analyzing stuff.

Like I’ve been saying for years you never know if a player can handle playing in Boston, so this is Nothing new.

I’m not defending Bloom on this signing.

I brought up the Perez andRichards signings as a comp and said he gets some right and some wrong and some of last years moves were highly criticised and some worked out.

Bloom wa given a $40M winter budget, last year and had 10-15 slots on the 40 that were weak. He swung and missed on some, including 2 of his biggest 3 contracts. He still did a great job, though.

Maybe Wacha will be a miss. Saying probably is fine with me on him.

It’s only November.

You can say that about anyone. You choose to fear the worst.

Last season is over, so what’s that got to do with this year?

Exactly! What does Wacha’s last season have to do with2022?

We can’t use any history to judge anything.

Maybe the O’s win 100 games!

Moon, I used OMG because Old Red did.....

Oooh I know!! I know!!

Neither team!

The Astros won the ALCS this year….

I personally think this is a load of crap. Most of the players who are deemed “unable to handle Boston” played on the Sox a very short time. Sometimes players just have bad seasons.

Whether you’re in Boston or Tampa or Oakland, if you don’t perform, you could wind up a bench player or a minor leaguer. Or on the waiver wire hoping for one last shot before you tell your agent to contact the Chunichi Dragons.

I think fans over value the aspect of what city that all happens in…
