I'll be honest and say I thought Cora took a stupid gamble pulling Houck after the 5th. Yes, he was on 3 days rest, but the Sox bullpen has lately been unreliable--see last night as the latest example. Or even tonight. The gamble was that the hitters would come through in the late innings, and they almost didn't.

 

Now, however, with the gamble paying off, Cora and the Sox are in the catbird's seat. Houck doesn't have a changeup, but that splitter is almost as good against righties or lefties. So suddenly Houck becomes a key guy on this team for whatever is ahead this season.

 

I would still use Plawecki to catch Eovaldi and probably Pivetta if he starts again, but not with anyone from the bullpen on the mound.

That dinger and those 2 runs belong to Alex Cora for leaving Davis in after that leadoff the walk in the 9th.
