Nothing can be worse than 1986. But I too was a teen in '75 and to lose to the best team I've ever seen on a bloop single was just brutal. '78 was horrible after the collapse as my hero made the final out with the tying run on 3rd, but it wasn't the World Series or even the ALCS. '03 may have been the low point for me as a fan, it just seemed like it was never going to happen in my lifetime.

1986 > 2003 > Sept 2011 > Aug 2021 > 2008 ALCS (which I barely even remember)

Despite losing the series, the 2008 ALCS had one of the most exciting games for a Sox fan. Down 3 games to 1 and trailing 7-0 in the 7th inning of an elimination game, the Sox manage to somehow get the series all the way to game 7. The heroes included Ortiz, JD Drew, Mark Kotsay and Coco Crisp…

The thing is, I already felt like it was never going to happen in my lifetime by 2003. Maybe that's why it didn't have such a lasting impression on me, and besides, it only last 1 year!

All these loses were horrible. They all fed the fire. For those of us who lived the '75 and '78 games and even some who lived '67, I think can appreciate the down times a little easier, because nothing was like the decades long grief we suffered.

2004> 2007> 2013> 2018 were nicely spread out. The sufferings have not been nearly as "lasting" because of this.

I remember that game. I think Papelbon went 2 or even 3 innings.

I also remember Price getting the save in game 7 for the Rays.

Paplebon: 2 inherited runners, 2 inherited runners scored

And the last batter due up against Price that day? Alex Cora!

But as Cora batted left-handed, Jed Lowrie pinch hit…
