Velasquez is a spare part with loot enough ABs to compile a decent spray chart and they play him to pull like he is Reggie Jackson. That was a DP ball if he was blamed at DP depth.

As has been pointed out in other threads the Red Sox by some metrics are the worst defense in AL further exacerbating the pitching weakness. Absolutely killing them in this inning aside from Dever's save which did not matter when Stonehands Dalbec coughed up the next play

Pivetta hasn't been at his best tonight, but Vazquez hasn't been much help and the defense has stunk--both JDM dropping the pop fly and Dalbec not holding onto the grounder. Great play by Devers, however.

 

I do think this season is over for the Sox.
