No, it’s 0-16. That is really hard to do.

 

You know as much as the Rays use their pen, you’d think one of them wouldn’t have it on a given night. They’ve all had it this entire series.

 

I did like what the ESPN guys said about Tampa Bay and pitching. If they offer you a pitcher, be careful. If they want one of yours, be careful. It really does seem to be true.

C'mon, Vegas, you've got to give a little credit to the starting pitching.

Another difference between the Sox and Rays. The Rays flat believe that righty vs. righty and lefty vs. lefty favors the pitcher. So they consistently, especially in a close game, bring in a righty to face a righty or a lefty to fact a lefty, and it just worked perfectly vs the three Sox hitters (two righties and a lefty) who batted after Bogaerts walked to lead off the inning.

 

Conversely, righty vs. lefty usually favors the hitters, so tonight the Rays started five lefty bats, which made Pivetta's job a little tougher. The Sox have never had five lefty hitters in a game this year and often only have 2 or 3. Ironically, and this is almost laughable, the Sox righty hitters stink against lefty starters, as we have seen in this series.

Sox have now lost 5 of 6 (and 4 straight). The one win was the game Houck started (and went just 4 innings). Houck is back in Worcester so Cora can keep some really great guys like Duran, Dalbec, Richards, Perez, ERod, etc on the Boston 26 man roster.

Dalbec was pathetic tonight so Cora brought in a rookie who had not faced live pitching for days. The hope was he would walk or get a hit and get his speed on the bases. Can't fault the call. We had a chance, but 0-16 with runners in scoring position and 0- 5 from JDM didn't help the cause. Cora has so few strings to pull right now.

The Durran that was drafted and was surging in the minors is not the Durran that is up in the bigs. They altered his swing to get more loft, but in doing so, turning him into an all or nothing hitter. When you've got a guy with a pretty good eye and a solid set of wheels, allowing him to be a contact hitter isnt a bad thing.
