With the Sox starting Richards and Houck today and ERod tomorrow and the Jays going with Ray (8-5, 3.12), Matz (8-5, 4.34), and Ryu (9-5, 3.44), Toronto winning all three is possible if unlikely.

Two seven inning games today will also minimize the exposure of the Jays bullpen.

This is what I wrote earlier today. Houck at 7:10 this evening is probably our best hope for a win.

Those who are clamoring for a great-hitting first baseman are missing the point. The Sox need a decent starter--as hard as those are to come by without selling the farm.

Richards, Perez, and ERod are all suspect. Yesterday against this same team, Pivetta gave up 4 in 4.2. Verdugo and the Jays bullpen saved that game for the Sox--and the Sox bullpen too of course.

Pivetta hasn’t been great as well.

Not looking good.

No but when we put Chavis Bob and Richards all in one game ? Probably raised the white flag beforehand most would say and 7 inning game ? Terrible terrible lineup .But maybe we can see an adult step in and relegate Richards to the pen finally and demote chavis and Bob ASAP

You love to fault VAZ, but Richards sux no matter if Varitek was catching him.

Not quite right. I said at least twice on this game thread that credit goes to Vazquez for keeping Richards out of trouble. I've said that on other game threads as well. I've also pointed out he has the 2d best DWAR, +1.2, on the Sox. What I don't like about Vazquez is he leads MLB in passed balls by a big margin. I also think he gives up too many wild pitches and isn't nearly as good at throwing out baserunners as he used to be. His hitting is OK, but down from previous seasons. And he's getting heavy.

Too bad the ump missed that 3rd strike call on Kike.

Definitely. Plus he took away at least two pretty good strikes from Richards.

On the other hand, Ray has been tough whenever he has needed to be in this game, and that's the real problem.

That pane of glass thing had to be a totally different pitch. Kike was called out on a pitch in the middle of the plate at or below the strike zone. The pane of glass showed a pitch 6 inches inside. It may have been the ball 3 pitch.

For the record, it looked like a strike to me; certainly one that’s too close to take.

It was a strike and the pane of glass thingy was a different pitch.

So much for pounding this guy. He found his groove, and is tying us up now. Lotta off balance hitting now.

Thanks. I wasn't paying attention, except to realize that Ray has been very tough today when he has needed to be. And it has made absolutely no difference which Sox hitter is at bat.

His hitting, or lack of, is much worse than his defense this year.

Richards.....8 hits, 1 walk, 4 ER, 4 innings pitched.

That's the pitcher he is.........waste of $10M.....he needs to come out of rotation ASAP
