Perez gets a huge break--because the wheels were definitely coming off.

The Sox lineup, on the other hand, continues to grovel at Germain's feet.

A grounder like that up the middle used to be a base hit. Shifts are killing baseball. I hope they pass a rule that you have to have 2 infielders on each side of 2nd Base.

They may do that, but I would disagree. It's up to the batters to adjust. If a manager wants to put 7 defenders in LF, let him.

It is ruining the game. Guys grounding out to short right field. Football requires 7 men on the line. This would be no different.

I myself have railed against the shifts, mostly because they are computer-driven, but splendid splinter has a point. Hitters have an option.

The Yankees, for example, appear to know how to bunt and hit to the opposite field. The Sox, not so much.

When it comes to ruining the game, I would mention bad HP umpiring, new relief pitcher rule, 7 inning DH's, and putting a runner on 2nd in extra innings. And just wait when they come out with the 4 fouls and your out rule.

Red Sox hitters could use a refresher course on recognizing the strike zone. You can't hit a grand slam with no one on base.

Meanwhile, the Yankees own Perez and are putting big dents in the green monster.

Correction. Perez still has his golden GIDP pitch.

I've felt free to fire away at Perez on this thread and others, but he has now gone 5, giving up 2, while throwing 63 pitches. Not too shabby even if this isn't a typical Yankees lineup.

So the fault clearly lies with the lineup, which, wait for it, is hitless in 4 innings.

This is without their best hitter. They’re doing all this damage.

What damage? 2 runs in 5 innings isn't exactly damage. Yesterday they scored in one inning. Friday night they got one run in the 9th.

Well, in two of the three previous games the team most unlikely to win won. So there's that.

5 innings, 0 hits. Good pitching beats good hitting, except when Eovaldi pitches great, goes 7.2 innings, and Ottavino gives the game away.

I think Cora will leave Perez in, not because he ain't getting hit, but because he can see the Sox bats today are dead. Why waste the bullpen in a lost cause?

This is really disappointing. Started out well this series only to give it away yesterday and can’t hit today.

MLB hitters better crush fastballs right down the middle. Now it's 30 to nothing.
