Signing Scherzer, this winter might be a great idea.

Trading for him, no.

If the Nats are willing to trade Scherzer, they will try to get the best as possible —based on what’s available (whatever that means). I don’t see them extending him but you never know.

Good start to this series. A must win series.

Richards starts tomorrow--when Houck will have had 4 days rest since going 3 vs. the Yankees. This cannot be a coincidence. Whitlock will have had 2 days rest and before going 2 vs the Yankees he had 8 days rest.

As much as I don't like Richards, however, I hope he has a good outing tomorrow night.

Maybe the Sox, known for not wanting older pitchers, would rather sign an older pitcher to 3 years than a middle aged one for 6 or 7 years.

Speaking of 'older' pitchers; at what age did Nolan get 'old?' Again, there is a similar history between Nolan and Scherzer.

Moon, would you agree to a 3 year contract and, if so, how much would you sign him for?

I have to think about it, but off the top of my head, I'd go $80M/3.

It's the 5+ year deals that kill teams.

It would be a risk, but only 3 years, with maybe 1-2 being riskiest.

I don't see any 31 year olds I'd rather give 6+ years to.

He could probably still do better than Richards, tomorrow.

A more realistic approach would be to hope that Sale can contribute more than anyone would expect. So far, he appears to be way ahead of schedule.

Yes completely agreed. I am not worried about Sale. I think he will be a stud again!!

I do, too.

It may take him a while, but I'm thinking he will return to form.

Moving Perez or Richards to the pen should improve on Workman/Andriese/Rios.

That would definitely be a great offer, but like iortiz posted, the Angels would seriously be in the bidding.Hell, they're so desperate, they might offer him 4 or 5 years.

Then, we don't get him.

Maybe Verlander would take $50M/2.

The Giants are the only team that can come close to the Sox in 21st Century rings.

In some ways they are similar to us. Although they did lose one WS in 2002, they've won all ones they were in after 2003- same as us.

They even kinda sucked in between like we did before and after 2013.

They had a losing record, last year and the three before, something we have not done, this century. Their last ring was way back in 2014.

I'd love to see a SF-BOS WS.

Watching the Giants/Dodgers game. Interesting that these two teams fighting it out in the NL West are each managed by former players of the SOX 2004 championship season, Kapler and Roberts.

Btw, after the final out was made in the 2004 WS, there's that great picture of the backs of Damon and Kapler standing next to each other in the outfield and forming the year 1918. How Twilight Zone was that?

Good observation, Moon. Personally, I would love to see ?-BOS WS. IOW, I don't care who they play. The SOX WS record since 2004 is 16-3. Bring 'em on.

Another Twilight Zone moment was the batter on the Cardinals who made the final out in the 2004 WS was wearing #3.

Getting there seems harder than winning it.

I don’t have the stats off the top of my head, but hasn’t Workman been really good his last few starts?

Still, 5 walks in 8 IP is problematic and asking for trouble. Workman allows too many baserunners and he can't be counted on in any high leverage situation. He has no role at all in playoff baseball. He can be cut/released whenever his spot is needed, maybe when Sale is activated.

Flip a 3 sided coin: Workman, Andriese, Rios.

Another one was that all the members of the winning team had on a RS UNIFORM!!! That blew my mind!

Indeed. That's the beauty of the modern playoff system--it makes it possible for more teams to go all the way even though the really good teams are still the most likely WS winners.
