Stat people can sometimes take the fun out of everything, too. ;)

Here's a fun tweet from Tangotiger that makes me happy:

Nothing is ever totally random.

The job of a saberist is not to find "if something exists". No, job of a saberist is to establish the extent that the thing exists.

e.g. : Finding clutch exists is irrelevant. Are we talking about 1 point of wOBA or 10 points or 50 points?

Nothing is ever totally random? I did not know that.

Remembering the OP, I guess it's time to remind ourselves that even after 4 losses in a row and realizing our rotation top to bottom is suspect, it's still worth it to root, root, root for the home team. They've brought us a lot of great moments and could still bring us more.

Shame! Shame! Shame! Shame!

Yesterday, pretty darn good pitching. Today good hitting. I see hope for a rotation of Sale/Eovaldi/Pivetta/Houck/ERod and the lineup we saw today and despite the continuing absence of Schwarber and Arroyo who appear to be dedicated IL'ers.

But Bloom won the Schwarber deal according to Bleacher Report, and that is what really matters.

We've lost 9 of the last 11.

Before that, we went 10-9 in the previous 19 games.

Before that, we won 8 in a row.

What a change from July 2nd to August 8th.

(And we thought June was the tough month.)

It's been a tough couple of weeks for Red Sox fans, to state the obvious.

Things will get better very soon though. Our rotation will be improved and the offense is not going to continue stinking like it has been. Brighter days are ahead!

Keep the faith. Everything's coming up roses from today on.

Brighter days are ahead, but they need to minimize the damage in the meantime.

When is Houck's next start?

Any word on a timetable for Arroyo's return?

Brasier?

Schwarber?

Houck is in AAA. He's eligible to come back sometime this week though. (Friday?)

@BillKoch25

Christian Arroyo and Danny Santana only recently resumed baseball activities. Neither one is all that close.

Brasier is most likely starting a rehab assignment this week.

Schwarber felt tightness and was given reduced activity. They will try to ramp him up again this week.

Which won't be easy against the Death Rays.

@redsoxstats

Rays coming to Fenway lined up with Patino, Fleming, and Yarbrough. Not exactly Glasnow, Snell and Morton walking through the door. Win the series, take care of the O's, the damage is done but a good old-fashioned pennant race will be on.

When does Verdugo get back from paternity leave? Every day counts right now.

I thought we were going to split this series and start the turn around but last game was brutal and out of any doom script.

Houck is already in the rotation. He's been nothing but spectacular. Sale is coming, and Bloom says he is in good shape and healthy. I want to trust him. Today's game will be key. If Rodrigues throws a solid game, it will be very encouraging moving forward. Pivetta hasn't sucked lately.

I still believe we win the division.

Houck has been solid, not spectacular. Let me know when he can go 6 innings.

Has anyone really looked at how putrid our offense has been since July 1..... ???? Devers and Xander, our sparkplugs from which this team fuels off of... 28 RBI's since 7/1, Xander alone has only 8 of those, Devers on the other hand has really hit a slump starting in Aug with 1 double, 0 HR, and 0 RBI's.... this team doesn't stand a snowballs chance in he!! with those two not showing up!

He has pitched 87, 85, 75 and 74 pitches, this year, but he has yet to go past 5 IP.

In 2020, he pitched 6 inning in 2 of his 3 starts.

I'm not sure how much that injury set him back, but maybe he can pitch over 80 pitches, next start. If he does well, that could get him to 6.

X-Man is playing hurt, so "not showing up" is rather cruel.

Devers has a ,931 OPS since July 1st- too bad nobody is on base for him to knock in. It's more JD, Vaz, Renfroe and a few others that are more to blame,

OPS since July 1st

.987 Plawecki (back up)

.944 Arroyo (IL)

.931 Devers

.916 Kike

.812 JD

.760 Verdugo

.711 Santana (IL)

.689 Bogey (playing hurt)

.663 Renfroe

.597 Vaz

.581 Cordero

.577 Duran

.551 Dalbec

.510 Marwin

All Year:

.921 Devers

.888 JD

.873 Bogey

.792 Arroyo

.783 Kike

.778 Plawecki

.772 Verdugo

.655 Dalbec

.646 Vaz

.625 Arauz

.577 Duran

.566 Marwin

.554 Santana

.517 Cordero

Red Sox expect Verdugo to fly back to Boston on Wednesday night... says he got to LA five minutes before the baby was born.

If that kids like his dad, he’s never going to learn to walk.

Rimshot

(Actually I know Verdugo is like 4th on the team in walks, but I needed a punchline.)
