I doubt he is high on Bloom's seek and acquire list.

It doesn't make sense to give up the prospects it would take for a rental bat to support an injury-prone rotation in an effort to qualify for the postseason during a bridge year. If Bloom and Co. were really inclined to go all in, they'd use resources to trade for a Scherzer.

Is Bryant the guy worth giving up a package of Duran, Downs or Casas, plus minor league arms? And if so, you'd also want to keep him around, which means at least a Springer contract... which, as far as we know, hasn't even been offered to Devers yet.

Per BTV, the Sox could get him for a package of Houck and Thad Ward.

That’s not an unreasonable package, although it might not be the best offer. But is it a smart move given that Bryant is not very likely to sign an extension? His agent (you know who) has been battling to get him to free agency for almost his entire career...

It's not a smart move in any way, shape or form IMO

The odds are as good that Swihart's Ghost himself takes over in left field.

A ghost manning LF? Would that be like Angels in the Outfield?

You do have an affinity for some of the worst sports movies ever made...

Agreed.

Certainly some other combo on BTV can be found that works on that site, but probably not one the Cubs would accept.

The Sox might find deadline acquisitions difficult if the other teams insist on Houck as part of the return package...

I seriously doubt we part with any of our top prospects.

We may trade someone like Chavis, or a prospect we don't think shows promise but another GM might, but those are rare.

IMO, our deadline deals will be contract dumps that require very little in return- maybe a single A prospect or two.

The original (Janet Leigh - Psycho, Keenan Wyne - Dr Srangelove as Col Bat Guano) or the remake (Christopher Lloyd, Matthew McConaughey, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Danny Glover, Adrien Brody AND Tony Danza)?

I’d pass on both in favor of a sports movie devoid of ghosts, magic, paranormal, animals taking the field, or Tony Danza.

I look at, say, “Brian’s Song” as a good sports movie. Somehow I think you’d pass saying “A football movie without a mule?!??! Gimme the remote!!”

Are you really talking s*** about Gus with Ed Asner, Tim Conway, Dick Van Patten and Don Knotts? That is one stacked movie.

The best fictional, non-paranormal related baseball movies according to me:

1. Sandlot

2. Bad News Bears

3. A League of Their Own

4. Major League

“Major League” was a complete ripoff of “Bull Durham.”

You just know the whole pitch for that movie was “What if we take the characters from ‘Bull Durham’, but rename ‘em and put ‘em in the majors?!?”

"Long Gone" gets my vote as most underrated (and least-known, since it's HBO-exclusive, and for some reason is never re-run, over and over again, like the big money classics). Came out the same time as "Bull Durham", with similar minor league themes, only perhaps a bit more risque. Definitely worth a watch.

If the Sox are in the market for a corner OF at the deadline, I would suspect someone like Corey Dickerson or Kole Calhoun over Bryant...

I think we use all of our remaining tax line budget space for a pitcher or two.

Our other weakest positions have multiple options:

OF: Verdugo, Kike, Renfroe, Santana, Marwin, Duran, Cordero (2nd look), Chavis (OF???)

2B: Arroyo, Kike, Marwin, Arauz, Downs, Santana (2B???)

1B: Dalbec, Marwin, Kike, Santana, Casas

Bull Durham is just ok. I used to hate on it, but it’s fine.

So in the category of movies about banged-up veteran catchers trying to provide fatherly guidance to hard-throwing phenoms with control issues amidst a cast of baseball groupies, die-hard Christians, and teammates practicing voodoo, would you say it's your second favorite movie?

Seen it and agree on all counts. I used to call one of my fantasy teams "The Tampico Stogies". (I'm down to one team this year, and am using the Gashouse Gorillas. My Bugs Bunny fandom got he best of me.)

"Little Big League" also was a movie that took a ridiculous premise and turned it into a surprisingly good and well-written baseball movie as well.
