The Braves gave a pinch hit appearance to 36yo middle infielder Sean Kazmar last night. It was Kazmar's first plate appearance in the majors since 2008.

This is believed to be the longest stretch in MLB history between two plate appearances.

In his most recent plate appearance before last night, Kazmar last faced Nationals' RP Saul Rivera, who retired in 2010...

Dodgers are showing the Padres who's boss so far.

2 down. 17 to go.

They're also 4.5 games ahead of them though.

Bauer vs. Snell today.

The Twins must really hate the new doubleheader rules. They're 0-4 in doubleheaders over the last 7 days

It's not fun when you're down 1 or 2 runs and you don't have those 2 extra innings to try to come back.

Like what happened to the Sox in Game 1 of the double header against the ChiSox

Minnesota at Oakland

10-10 in the 10th

That was a wild 10th inning too.

After starting 0-6, the As are now 12-7 with an 11-game win streak.

Gotta love baseball.

D-backs and Reds followed with their own entertaining game this afternoon. D-backs were up 4-1, then Cincy tied it with 2 HRs in the 6th. Arizona scored 4 more in the 7th to take an 8-4 lead, then gave up 3 in the bottom half of that inning, and another in the 8th. They went to extras tied at 8, but Arizona scored 6 runs in the 10th. Reds made it interesting with 3 in the bottom half, but it was a 14-11 win for the Diamondbacks. That game must have been an emotional roller coaster for fans of both teams

On Opening Day, Mark Derosa of MLB Network said the Brewers had the best pitching staff in the game. Everybody laughed at him, but he may be into something. They definitely have the best closer in the game, which sure comes in handy on the back end.

Fun baseball stats.

After 4 starts, Corbin Burnes has an ERA of 0.34 and an ERA+ of 1101 and doesn’t lead the National League in either category.

Jake deGrom has a WHIP of 0.553 and is a distant second in the NL...

Anyone know the record for opening a season with X amount of Ks before their first BB?

40 is pretty amazing.

Yes.

40 (and counting) in 2021 by Corbin Burnes.

He already has the record...

Where do you find the stats for things like this? Or, did you read it somewhere?

Read it somewhere or heard it on MLB radio.

When he got to 30 Ks there were numerous articles about him being the first pitcher with 30 strikeouts and no walks since 1906. No idea who did that in 1906, despite my researching the subject...

You'd think the guy who dug up this fact would have the decency to mention the 1906 pitcher.

I believe he simply goes through all the box scores of every game ever played. Pretty basic research method, no?

Anyone who hasn't taken the time to watch some Padres/Dodgers baseball should do themselves a favor and watch some. Their series have been very entertaining so far.

Go Padres.

I usually root for the underdog, but considering that both my favorite player in the league AND a dude who's jersey I wore in high school are both on the Dodgers, hard to root against LA

There are a lot of folks who think they are the two best teams in MLB. They are developing quite a rivalry.

I stand corrected.

Burnes does have the record for a starting pitcher at 49 K's without a BB (and counting), even after last night's beating at the hands of the Marlins (in which he K'd 9 and still issued no walks).

The actual record for strikeouts before issuing a walk to start the season is 51 K's by Kenley Jansen in 2017...

If I'm not rooting for the Sox, I almost always root for the underdog. I really don't have anything against the Dodgers except that they won it last year.

I hope that the two teams remain close in the standings all year. Makes for exciting baseball.
