A large amount of people didn't vote for a president, either.

I am aware. I was making a satirical remark on how some people take the civic duty more seriously than others. At the end of the day, voting is not mandatory, but there are many (including me, generally) that see voting as the morally proper thing to do even when the ticket is less than desirable.

The Red Sox will fall just short of the 84 wins posted by the 2019 club that got 6.8 fWAR from Xander Bogaerts, 6.6 from Mookie Betts, 5.9 from Rafael Devers, 3.7 from Eduardo Rodriguez, 3.6 from Chris Sale, 3.5 from Christian Vazquez, 3.2 from J.D. Martinez, 2.4 from David Price, 2.0 from Andrew Benintendi and 1.4 from Jackie Bradley Jr.

Or not.

One could expect the same or better numbers from players in their primes or getting closer to prime.

Bogey is 28.

Devers was pre-prime in 2019.

Vaz was having his best year in 2020- better than 2019.

Verdugo should get better, but will not come close to Betts.

A Renfroe-Beni platoon should be better than Beni's 2019 season.

The 2019 season also saw this...

32 GS Porcello 5.52 (I'm thinking Richards/Pivett/Perez can beat that)

22 GS Price (4.28)

8 GS Velazquez (5.43)

7 GS Johnson (6.02)

6 GS Casner (6.20)

5 GS Chacin (7.36)

11 GS by Weber, Lakins, Jo Smith, Taylor, Poyner & DHern)

Sale started 25 games (4.40)

ERod started 34 (3.81)

Eovaldi started 12 (5.99)

It's not hard to imagine this rotation can do better, depite how good these guys looked on paper before the 2019 season began.

Or not.

In Brazil, you are fined, if you do not vote.

Take that north of the border to Venezuela and that's a borderline human rights violation, particularly if Chavez was still alive

This isn't a Presidential Election. I don't have to vote if I don't like any of the options

The Presidential Election isn't mandatory. This one is.

It's actually immoral to vote in the Presidential Election. It's exceedingly moral to vote on this poll though.

When you vote in the Presidential Election, the lizard people actively switch your votes with their preferred candidate. On TalkSox, our mods are not lizard people. This poll is transparent!

Well considering that we have no mods anymore, it would be pretty hard for them to be lizard people...

Rick Porcello posted 1.8 fWAR in 2019.

ZiPS projects 2021 WAR of 1.2 for Garrett Richards, 1.2 for Nick Pivetta and 1.3 for Martin Perez:

https://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&type=zips&team=3&lg=all&players=0

Steamer projects 2021 WAR of 1.4 for Richards, 0.6 for Pivetta and 1.2 for Perez:

https://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&type=steamer&team=3&lg=all&players=0

ZiPS projects Chris Sale (3.4) and Eduardo Rodriguez (3.0) as the only Red Sox pitchers with more than 1.2 WAR in 2021 ... and those lefthanders carry serious health risks.

It is all about pitching and keeping their arms healthy. Based on the roster and past history, this team is at best a 500 ball club baring major upgrades to the rotation and bullpen. 82 wins plus or minus a couple is my bet.

Also this poll is straight up popular vote. There is no mucking about with made up things like the Electoral College, which is what they use to steal the elections.

And this vote had no attack adds. I don't remember seeing any commercial in which 84-86 wins told me if I vote for 64-69 wins, I will lose my rights, my guns will be taken away, and the entire season will devolve into Socialism. Or was that nepotism?

This is the annual thread where we all guess how many wins the Sox will have in the regular season. Let's all assume that 162 games will be played for this.

87 wins. Book it.

93 wins I think Duran and Houck along with Kiki and hunter make a huge difference.JDM Benny have much better years and propel us

Quite the statement from somebody who keeps threatening to stop being a fan due to the lack of big moves by the front office.

Seriously dude, either s*** or get off the pot

I'm thinking that it is likely that most people grossly under estimated what this team was capable of accomplishing. Certainly I did. If Bloom gets the bulk of the credit then I am on board. He has done something that I have not seen and did not see coming. If he is capable of doing what he has done on an on going basis, it looks as though it would be financially bad business to throw a bunch of money at anybody long term. Even the Red Sox with their somewhat open ended budget have no need. John Henry should pay Bloom the big bucks I guess and let him do his thing. Ownership likely as well as the fan base will get a huge win.

Now - I was watching the game yesterday and paid particular attention to Devers. I still chuckle when i think of the people who wanted and likely still do him to be moved to first base. he is physically fit and that won't change unless he allows it to happen. We should enjoy him while we have him.

Regarding Devers, my opinion is to leave the kid alone and let him do his thing. I can't remember who tweeted about him being like a puppy, but that tweet was spot on.

Bloom has done an amazing job so far, IMO. That said, the single biggest factor this year has been the return of Cora.

This is a 93 to 95 win team. Need to keep playing well. The question will be if they make any moves to even get better. Do they add another bullpen arm or a starter. It doesn’t have to be a big name.

How about Sale?

Devers will be an All Star this year and many more to come. Leave him where he is. People overreact every time he commits an error.

Devers - 0 DRS, -1 UZR/150

Dalbec - -8 DRS -1.9 UZR/150

It makes no sense to move Devers off 3b right now. He's fine at 3b.

I also think that Cora has made a significant difference but i was glad to hear that Bloom did not simply rubber stamp his return. Looks like he is in charge. I've never really paid much attention to any of the gm's that we have had other than to simply argue about them but this guy is different. i'm not giving him more credit than I think he deserves but so far so very very good.

There were numerous people here who spoke their minds with respect to what his future might be. His build led some to say that at some point in time he would be best suited to play first base. Looks to me like he is in excellent shape. He is a star. Leave him alone and once again enjoy him while we have him.

And he will continue to be a fine third baseman going forward whether he is playing for us or not.

I will admit I like the idea of moving Devers to 1b and Bogaerts to 3b. And it might happen eventually, but no way it happens in 2021, and if it ever does it will start in the off-season, not be a mid-season change…

Looks like moving him to 1B solves 2 big issues at 1B: defense and offense.

Some guys are big men with a posse. I said 93 wins before the season started.

I didn't need all the caveats. 93 wins
