I feel that it is my duty to point out that the Orioles have only won 43 games, and 7 of those wins have come against the Yankees.

And that's essentially what the Rays lead over the Yankees comes down to.

Rays vs O's: 18-1

Yanks vs O's: 9-7

Granted it's difficult to go 18-1 versus even the worst team, but if the Yanks could have kept pace against those stiffs then they would still have a shot at the East.

Good point. I didn't realize how much the Rays have dominated the Os.

It seems like that Rays just don't lose anymore. :(

Rays fans can probably find a team with NY killing them and TBR struggling against.

The O's disparity is wild, though.

Not in the AL East. The biggest one I see is vs Seattle:

Yanks vs Mariners: 5-2

Rays vs Mariners: 1-6

Okay, then even the O's and Seattle records, and you're barely 3-4 games better off.

The 2021 Yankees have the profile of a team with lots of individual talent and gaping flaws as a team...

Masters of “on paper” talent.

Now they’re in a death spiral

13 pretty easy games coming up.

Even without some key players, the wins are there for the taking.

If you don’t make a move now, while your competitors have tougher schedules, don’t expect to do it later when things flip.

The Yankees' pitching staff is absolutely wiped out. They almost literally have no one left.

As for the Heaney trade, obviously that one is on Cash.

Cash needs to go.

They suck. Seriously suck

Bring back the D squad.

It is amazing how a team can go from looking so bad, to looking so good, then back to looking so bad again.

Even when the Yankees were looking bad early in the year, they didn't look THIS bad. I guess it's just an instant correction of that 13 game winning streak.

Your pitching staff is in awful shape though.

Britton out for season, Loaisiga out, Chapman a shell of his old self. Taillon out. Kluber not 100% back. Severino not coming back. Monty dreadful last night. Gil dreadful last start. Heaney dreadful every time LOL

All year it was apparent that the yanks were playing below their skill level. Then they go 21-5 and it essentially looks like talent started winning out. Now, losing 11 out of 13 down the stretch and not looking competitive on top of the injuries shows that this dog don’t hunt. And it’s a leadership issue. I can’t blame Cashman since he actually brought in viable reinforcements. I blame Thames and Boone. You get a lineup that’s this accomplished and this deep and they cannot hit shows a total lack of hitting fundamentals. It would surprise me little to see a gutting of the managerial team and this same roster going bonkers in 2022. Although I absolutely expect reinforcements in FA this summer assuming the CBA agreed to doesn’t lower the tax thresholds

Funnily enough they lead the AL with the lowest team ERA. Don't think that'll last though.

Pitching is not the problem, although injuries to many of them is one big problem.

The Yanks staff places...

3rd K-BB% 17.6%

4th in fWAR

5th ERA-

10th xFIP at 4.05

13th in HR/9 at 1.20
