The funny thing is, the Yankees could go on a hot streak and suddenly look like contenders again. They beat the Rays last night, they're leading tonight, they have Cole going tomorrow, I think.

It's such a long and up and down season.

I still think they win the division and probably the AL.

Cole was notably off.

Although good news on the Kluber front. He played catch today without issue. He was supposed to rest for 4 weeks. Makes me wonder if the specialists disagreed with the initial MRI interpretation

A Yankees fan wrote this, it made me laugh:

Giancarlo Stanton made $79,452 today. How much did you make? And Aaron Poon said he hit the ball hard to 3rd base, so things are looking up.

He's hitting .087 in the last week. And .170 in two weeks.

He's a full time DH who needs days off so he doesn't get a boo boo.

If that isn't an indictment on Brian Cashman and the front office, I don't know what is at this point.

Here's an exchange from a Yankee forum that cracked me up.

Poster 1: The Yankees still don't have a Major League CFer.

Poster 2: Remember when they ran Shane Robinson out there in RF for 25 games and we were like, this has to be rock bottom? They were just stopping to change drill bits.

The Yankees are on the brink of falling out of contention. They are playing terrible baseball and apparently have forgotten how to hit. Boone looks totally lost and befuddled. Cashman is quiet . And Steinbrenner is nowhere to be found. A Sox sweep looks imminent.

And they might smoke us today LOL I take nothing for granted with this game.

Nobody drops out of contention in the first week of June. Still 100 games to be played. But if the offense continues to severely underperform then this team has no shot at turning things around.

Stanton has as much raw power as anyone in the game. But he takes some of the weakest , strangest swings I have ever seen. Honestly, my Aunt Tillie took better hacks in backyard wiffleball games.

You guys are 1.5 games behind the last WC slot.

I wonder what Boone was thinking when he pitched to Devers with first base open in the sixth inning? Now , I'm no managerial genius or anything, but putting Devers on seemed to be in the no - brainer category.

I'm sure a lot of people had the same question.

The only thing I could figure is that Renfroe has also been swinging the bat very well.

Orioles lead the Guardians 18-3.

In the last week, the Orioles offense had been better than the Yankees. Would the Yankees go after Cedric Mullins at the deadline?

I remember when the Marlins traded Stanton to the Yankees and how Jeter took a lot of heat for that deal with people saying the Marlins didn't get any high quality prospects for Stanton.

A few years later, Jeter looks like a genius for dumping Stanton and his contract on the Yankees.

On NY Sports radio, a few Yankees fans are calling for Buck Showalter to replace Boone. I forgot all about Showalter, he would be an interesting choice. I don't think Cashman would go in that direction, however. Showalter will want too much say.....

Still just at a loss with this team. Pen fails them when they need them. Offense hit like mad last year, can’t hit at all now. Everyone is scuffling, even Lemahieu who was so integral to the offense the last two years. This is a massively disappointing team.

My friend was livid at Boone for not getting tossed in the 9th. What are you thoughts? I think that really would have given them a spark

Maybe as a finish out the season manager and then re-look.

This team, on paper, was a title contender at the beginning of the season. The massive failure 60 games in that is the 21 Yanks needs to have consequences. I don’t care if it’s Buck or another qualified guy, but changes need to be made. In 17-19, this team was good and maybe overachieved. But we add the best pitcher in the AL and go into the tank for 20-21. That has to have consequences. Cashman is not immune here. I said from the day Brosseau took Chap deep last year that we needed to add LHHers to the club and they didn’t. There was no offensive additions period and now the offense can’t hit their way out of a wet paper bag. Everyone should be on notice. Cashman doesn’t get a lifetime appointment here. His seat should be white hot right now

The Yankees need him to get thrown out more often, possibly permanently...

Another classic exchange from a Yankee forum, this one about Chris Gittens.

Poster 1: His swing looks very long.

Poster 2: His career looks very short.

Cash to use the lux tax limit as a cap. Yanks have $4 mil available for upgrades. There is no cavalry coming

Maybe it's time to be sellers again.

$4M can get one good player making about $12M annually, or more if you can get the team to kick n some cash, too.

Maybe you can trade a dead contract and a prospect, like the Ottavino trade, to free up some more cap space, then add a higher priced player or two.

I don't see Cashman making the right moves, though, unless it's the blind squirrel analogy.
