The pitching is carrying the Yanks.

We keep waiting for the bats to wake up, but the more time goes by, the more I wonder if the projections were wrong. Plus, what happens if, and maybe when is a better word, Judge and or Stanton get hurt?

Judge has been in a miserable slump too. There are some players who may not pull out of their nosedive (Sanchez and Hicks). But the lineup gets longer on Tuesday. Yanks are dead last in the majors in OPS from their 1b's. .494. That's OPS. They get the reigning AL HR champ back next game. Torres finally broke through with a HR a day after having a couple clutch hits fall in. Sometimes that is all you need

While Judge has "slumped," his OPS is still .819, so I wouldn't blame your offensive under achieving on Judge being 100 points less than expected.

I'm still waiting for Stanton's annual IL stints to begin.

Stanton was a 158 game warrior for 17-18. 19, he injured his bicep in ST and they decide to take care of his barking shoulder at the same time. They stir up a hornets nest in the shoulder and he goes out for awhile. Returns and in his first game back gets injured in a collision at 3rd which he rushes back from for the POs and pulls a quad. 2019 was a calamity made worse by the Yanks crack medical staff. 2020 he pulled a hammy which most seasons will cost you 3-4 weeks. In a 60 game sprint, it cost him almost half the season.

I don’t doubt that he will make his way to the IL, but to this point he looks far less stuff out there. They revamped his offseason regimen to get more flexible, we shall see if it worked

Pitching can overcome a lot, though.

Indeed, and that is why the Yanks are now in 2nd place, and Toronto is falling.

But is the Yankee pitching staff good enough to carry them, if Stanton and or Judge are out for a long time?

As much as Judge has "slumped," he's still second on the team in OPS+

159 Stanton

135 Judge

128 Urshela

122 LeMahieu

91 Sanchez

88 Torres

85 Hicks

64 Frazier

Okay, maybe Voit and Torres can pick up some slack, if one or both are hurt, but I doubt they can pick it all up.

The guy gets 2 hits a series vs us and they're always homers

Mark Derosa was saying earlier today how much he values Zunino for his ability to manage the game behind the plater, build up the confidence and abilities of those young Rays pitchers. To him, that's worth the perennial .200 average, 20 HRs and 200 Ks.

Yanks win! Montgomery was awesome. 2 homers and a shutout pen. Chapman was wincing and lost some velo in the middle of the innings, but recovered. Hope it isnt serious whatever it is cause he has been lights out

Good defensive game for Sanchez too. Big play throwing out a runner off a wild pitch in the 9th. No way Higgy has the arm to make that play. Monty also had his best outing of the season with Sanchez calling the game, does that make him his personal catcher?!

Being serious though, Sanchez is trash most days but then sucks you back in with his potential when he has games like this.

Can’t hit for s*** but Cole is a beast. Another victory!

I hope we go all in and get Max. Without Jasson being in the deal.

Yankee runs scored in last 4 wins:

4

3

Before this, they've also won 2-0, 2-1 and 3-1 in 3 of their 11 wins.

The Sox have scored 4,1,2,1 and are 1-3 in their last 4 games.

I'm not trying to say it's all about offense or pitching: it's both along with a little luck.

Yeah, we'll be fine. I just wish we had some of those games in the Texas series back, where are offense was fine but the bullpen choked. Down the road, I know we will lose more games due to the bullpen rather than the lack of offense, which is why I think many people here are so desperate (myself included) to buck this current losing streak

2021 baseball is about great pitching. It just is. You’re gonna get small leads and you have to hold them. Montgomery, German and Kluber have stabilized the rotation behind Cole with Taillon showing well in his last two starts. Severino is ahead of schedule and can jump in in about 2 months for anyone hurt or struggling. The pen, aside from the two hiccups in a row to Houston and Washington, has been absolutely lights out without arguably their best pitcher in Britton. Essentially, if our pen gets a lead, we win. I expect us to add offense. Either Torres hits or he moves to Colorado for Story. Either Frazier and Hicks start to hit or we go out and get another OFer. The holes in this team right now are not the most expensive to fix (pitching) at the deadline

I don’t think you’ll be fine. Sox pitching isn’t at the level of the yanks and the bridge to Barnes can’t hold water. You’ve been a .500 team since the aberrant early season 9 game streak and still haven’t played anyone good. What do you expect to happen when you play the 38 games vs Jays and Yanks? Also, even if the Sox somehow stay in contention come July, I seriously doubt Bloom spends prospect capital to acquire an upgrade. I said before the season that the Sox were a sub.500 team. They very well May end up that way

It's still too early to write off any team. Boston's pitching might have been overperforming early on but their lineup is legit. Do I think they're a top team? No. Maybe a fringe wild card team if they continue to hit and their pitching doesn't totally suck. But time will prove that out. It usually takes until around the All-Star break to see who the real contenders are. Edited by bkzwhitestrican

Maybe Yankee starters have been "over perfoming," too, and maybe the Yankee line-up is "legitimately" not all that good.

It's possible, and we'll be able to evaluate that in a couple of months. Right now all we can do is make guesses based on past and recent performances.

Pitching has turned the corner, but the offense hasn't yet

Thing is fans do not see what the FO and scouts saw in these guys. Richards is finally healthy and has legit stuff. Pivetta is healthy as well and has been performing great since wore a Red Sox uniform and it is not a small sample anymore. Rodríguez is healthy as well and do not forget that in 2019 was in the top 6 for the CY and this year has been solid. Perez ain’t an ace but he can post (has posted since last year) very solid No. 4 numbers. Also, according to reports Sale will likely come back and if he is 100% healthy this team will be a solid contender.

If you ask me, I really really like our chances.

Said that this is a very underrated team, and I like that.

They were underrated, although lots of things happen before Memorial Day. I also think you spent a lot of the time flying under the radar against bad teams. We shall see what happens. If you're still holding hopes of the POs into July I will be surprised. I think Pivetta is a time bomb. Great stuff, cannot locate it and his HR rate makes no sense this year. He is bound for a correction. ERod is ERod. Richards is a wild card. If he can stay healthy and if he can adjust to wearing a frickin jacket, then he might be something for you. I have zero faith that Eovaldi or Perez will be useful for you and your pen is a dumpster fire.
