I think we had all these guys within a short time span, too.

LaRoche was with us about 5 games. That was a weird one.

But without LaRoche, we might never have acquired Casey Kotchman and his .572 OPS...

On July 22/09 we traded Argenis Diaz and Hunter Strickland for LaRoche.

Theo was having a bit of a silly spell.

LaRoche was actually not bad. I'm not sure what Theo saw in Kotchman,

The Rays, of course, got one last .800 year out him a couple years after us. (He had one .840 season with the Angels long before us.

LaRoche had an .834 OPS in his previous 6 seasons before the trade to us. He had a few good seasons after us, too.

Theo saw Drake LaRoche draw with crayon all over clubhouse walls.

Best Sox 1st name?

Jim: Rice/Foxx/Piersall/Lonborg/Williams

Most used?

John/Jon with Bill right behind.

Most deceiving 1st name -- Carl: 1). better known as Yaz: 2). better known as Reggie Smith; 3). better known as a $142 million dollar overpay for not-a-budding-superstar in Boston worthy of the Pittsburgh Crawfords...

And let us not forget the infamous Carl Mays - outstanding pitcher that some think should be a Hall of Famer. Best known for throwing the pitch that ended the life of Roy Chapman. But the guy pitched for 15 years and was 207-126 with a 2.92 ERA (119 ERA+). Mays was also the first of the players sold by Frazee to the Yankees, a list that included many quality Red Sox players such as Bullet Joe Bush, Sad Same Jones, Hall of Famer Herb Pennock, and some obscure guy named George Herman something or other.

It probably did not help Mays' cause for either the Hall or even to say on the Red Sox that he reportedly had a reputation as being a very unpleasant human being and had a notorious reputation as a headhunter...

Cora says Sox see Houck as a starter, and he won’t be a bullpen consideration to open the year.

How many innings has Houck pitched so far, anyone know? I know he had a rough first outing.

@ChrisCotillo

Interesting note on Michael Chavis: He said there have been zero conversations with the Red Sox about playing outfield since arriving in camp.

@redsoxstats

In the video the Sox released today Cora told him, "Work on the corners here and there, but just work a lot at second."

It's where he needs the work and where we have a great need. No used putting him all over. Give him the experience at 2b. If it doesn't work out, then you know you can move on. However, if he goes down to AAA, he's not getting ANY reps at 2b.

Hope Dalbec keeps it up... I keep hearing "Brian Daubach" when announcers say his name!

Same, but only when I go to fangraphs. I keep putting "Bobby Dalbec."

Singing to the choir.

Chavis is the kid I most traded on the BTV site, but I've argued he deserves a long look, this year.

I'm a huge Dalbec and Devers fan, so I don't want him playing there, except for normal rest days.

I also like EHern in CF.

That leaves Chavis beating out Arroyo and Marwin for most of the 2B duties in my book.

I think Cora wants EHern more at 2B, so let's see.

Let’s get crazy with 2021. What do we have to lose?

I'm getting the feeling these things will work themselves out. Cora's choices will be narrowed once we see how certain players are doing on offense and defense.

If Chavis is raking, it might force EHern to CF more often than Cora originally planned.

If Cordero is struggling or hurt, it might seem obvious to play EHern in the OF- not Marwin.

By August 0r maybe much sooner, we may see Munoz and Chavis playing much more than Marwin & Arroyo.

There are so many moving parts and the flex players added make the combinations almost too many to name.

I'm getting excited about this team- much more than last year and even more than the post May 2019 team.

We don't get as many April days off as we did in "olden times."

@alexspeier

Red Sox pitchers have regularly shown mid- to upper-90s velo in outings. ‘It’s a lot better than (2019), obviously,’ Says Cora, referencing the slow post-WS buildup in which Sox starters weren’t physically built up for the start of the season.

Oof. Cora throwing shade at the 2019 manager.

This might be the trend going forward.

April games sell out with greater frequency than any other month, since no one is eliminated yet. So playing more games in April and fewer in months with less interest like September feels like a business move...

April used to have extra days off to cover for rain delays. Not a fan of front loading off days. The O's series should be game 1, game 2, game 3, off day. If there's rain, just use that 4th day as a make up. I realize that they put the off day on 4/2 as a make good to opening day fans if their game gets rained out.
