Only guys still available are Logan Forsythe, Marwin Gonzalez, Kipnis, Jed Lowrie and Addison Russell. Seems like they aren't going to sign anyone else.

Kike's playing second -- he's Cora's guy there. Verdugo's in center, the banana splits are down the lines. If Bloom signs the reliever from Japan, he might have a mil left to add Marisnick, for late innings or to replace slumpers until Duran is ready. That's all, folks.

I always liked Lowrie but he's pretty old now.

The Mets signed him for 2 years and $20 million.

They got 8 plate appearances out of him.

Especially for that deal.

I think I'd rather have him that Christian Arroyo or Chavis, so I'd have even signed him to a ML deal at a rock bottom, low cost, of course.

Dee Strange-Gordon has a reputation as a good teammate who is active in the community but the 32-year-old has posted only 0.1 fWAR in 291 games over the past three seasons.

Strange-Gordon might be better-suited for a non-playing role.

Or not.

You'd know better than any of us. I think I'm remembering too much of the 2014-17 version of Dee. He was ok in 2019, but his upside is probably 0 fWAR going forward. I also thought he played more OF than he actually has.

Problem being, Dee would still be towards the top of the depth chart for the BOSOX just because of how in flux the 2B/OF positions are right now.

While I respect your impartiality and consistency, I'm talking about S-G replacing Arroyo as the starting 2Bman, if EHern is moved to CF.

Arroyo's numbers are very close to S-G's over the past 3-4 years.

BWAR has G-S at +0.9 from 2018-2020 and Arroyo at +0.2.

At worst, S-G takes over for Chavis as the 26th man, and we keep Arroyo and S-G on the 26 man roster, making it easier for EHern to play more in CF.

S-G might have also been used as a PR.

Steamer and ZiPS project Dee Strange-Gordon with 2021 WAR of a negative 0.4 in 48 games and a negative 0.3 in 125 games while projecting Christian Arroyo with 2021 WAR of 0.5 in 65 games annd 0.9 in 78 games.

The 2021 Marcel projections for 32-year-old Strange-Gordon and 25-year-old Arroyo:

DS-G 353 PA, .252/.295/.348/.643, 14 SB, 5 CS

CA 279 PA, .242/.320/.411/.731, 2 SB, 1 CS

Include Arroyo among Chaim Bloom's wise acquisitions.

Or not.

Again, I said we could keep Arroyo on the 26 man roster along with S-G.

I think you rely too much on ZIPS, but at least you are consistent.

It's not like S-G is old, and he's not too far removed from some very decent years.

Problem with a guy like Dee getting older is that his main weapon (speed) is getting worse year over year. He once was 29.6 ft/sec, but is now at 28.3 ft/sec. That's a pretty substantial drop. That's like going from top 10 fastest player in the league to top 60. He basically went from Byron Buxton speed to Wil Myers. We dumped Jose Peraza last season and no one batted an eye. Dee is closer to Jose Peraza right now.

To be precise, I typically rely on Steamer, ZiPS and Marcel for an aggregate picture instead of relying on a single source.

Isn't 28.3 still tops on the Sox?

Okay, but he's off the 40 man, now.

Saying this for a year if someone wants to look like a Genuine Genius go sign Scooter Genette .Really like to see our GM have some balls and do this .I just think he needs a shot now that he’s healthy .and go get Puig for the summer we need some excitement here .

Munoz is faster.

If players not on the 40 man count, I believe Jimenez is the fastest, followed by Duran. If you mean only on the 40, probably Rosario...

You have to overpay for a guy who doesn't even feel as if he wants to play. Sounds like a plan?

Do you think Jimenez is closer to BOS than Munoz?

I only mentioned Munoz because he was on the roster last season and will most likely be one of the first guys called up this year.

I'm not so sure about being "one of the first."

Barring major injuries or stinky starts to the season, Chavis and Arauz are already on the 40 man roster and would likely be called up as IF help.

As an OF'er, he has a better chance. Duran, Gettys and Puello are also not on the 40 man roster, but my guess is, we add an OF'er before day one. (EHern can play OF, if a need arises, or maybe they stick Chavis in LF, sometimes.

As I've said many times, nobody will lose any sleep, if we have to DFA our 40th man on the roster, or even out 34th man, to make room for Munoz, so if he is doing well, he could be among the first to get a shot.

Our current depth chart (40 and no 40 man players)

So you think Rosario and Wilson are closer to BOS since they are on the 40 man and Munoz is not?

I think their defense is already ML ready, but I like Munoz better than both.

(I have high hopes for Rosario, but not in 2021.)

That does help.

Yes, just because Munoz might be a slightly better choice, the Sox may not want to DFA or trade someone, just to make room for Munoz to be called up.

I was a bit surprised Munoz cleared waivers.
