Incomplete info! It was for 1/8.

But doesn't 8M for 1 year set a bar of sorts for starting pitching? Ray is coming off a bad year, but is under 30, a one-time All-Star, and a better bounce-back/upside guy than someone nearly a decade older. Unless his arm is cooked...

I think it sets something of a bar, yes.

Marcus Stroman returns to Mets by accepting $18.9 million Qualifying Offer.

I still expect Gausman to follow suit...

Probably a wise move by Gausman and Stroman. They are decent pitchers , but neither has ever been a big winner and they will both turn thirty shortly. I don't think there would be a great demand for them , especially with a Q.O. involved , even in good times.

Bauer, the Cy Central winner who also pitched great in the playoffs (unlike Bieber), rejected his QO and would cost a draft pick. Bloom now says he'd still pursue such a player, if he fits into longterm plans. Bauer is 30 and smack dab in his prime, an ace to build around. No one younger or better is available.

Would anyone object to watching Bauer lead the rebuild for the next four years... instead of watching him in pinstripes with Cole?

No one's going to object to Bauer pitching for us, that's for sure. It all depends if there's room for him in John Henry's money pie.

I am still operating on the assumption that Bauer would avoid pitching in pinstripes with Cole, since they allegedly hate each other dating back to when they were teammates at UCLA...

Wasn't Lester past his prime when he hit 30? :(

That was like 30 years ago; the last time we heard John Henry speak in public, he was waxing nostalgic for his boyhood idol, Stan the Man -- who the Cardinals' never traded (partly, because they owned him because of the Reserve Clause).

Since then, the owner has been in his bunker, still refusing to concede that Mookie Betts won the World Series.

The Marlins are hiring Kim Ng as their general manager.

She will be the first woman and first Asian-American GM in the league.

She's been a candidate around MLB for years. FINALLY someone is giving her a chance...

Aware of the high rate of prospect attrition, this Seattle fan had written off Mariner outfield prospect Kyle Lewis when injuries threatened the career of the 11th pick in the 2016 draft.

A corny tribute was expected after Lewis was named 2020 AL Rookie of the Year but this 32-minute video is truly inspiring:

As much as I like Morton, he doesn't seem like someone to sign for "the long term."

There's an argument to be made for consistently getting one or two year deals. I can see it. If anything, he might use it to motivate himself to perform better

I don't disagree, but we likely will not be in the WS, this year, so how much is Morton worth in 2022?

It's too much of an unknown, even on a 2 year deal.
