With Pillar gone and Beni still iffy, I think Duran comes up.

Do the Sox have another outfielder in the majors -- I'm not including JDH Martinez.

It has to be Verdugo, JBJ and either Duran or more of Tzu-Wei (Not Freddy) Lin..

Jose Peraza has played 62 games in the outfield.

I say try Chavis in LF...

The Sox have said that they're not calling Duran up. He's not ready.

Also Domingo Santana is available. And basically free...

After watching last night's game, Peraza isn't either.

Our best prospect hasn't been acquired yet... Happy Reset Day, Sox Nation.

If they are picking at 7 or 8, there's a chance Casas remains the better prospect at the moment.

Right after they were drafted, Beni and Ball were both outside the top 5 prospects in the system. They need to grow a bit before you can all of a sudden say he's the best prospect.

Well, we had guys like Blake Swihart and Henry Owens in the system back then...

Beni was behind BRIAN FREAKIN JOHNSON when he was first signed. Of course the other guys were Moncada/Raffy/Margot/Owens/ERod. Moncada/Raffy/ERod are probably better than Beni.

Ball was behind RENAUDO and ALLEN FREAKIN WEBSTER.

If they don't get any other prospects this winter (unlikely) and nobody graduates, the #7 pick would definitely be behind the Casas/Downs/Mata tier, but included somewhere with Song/Duran/Jimenez/Dalbec tier.

Dalbec with 6 K’s, HR, 1B in first two games is wild.

Dalbec was known to be a power hitter with a high strikeout rate in the minors. We brought him up out of need and to learn if he will be an acceptable first baseman for next year. He is 26 years old so this is his chance to shine. It's too early to tell much, but so far he doesn't seem to have a good feel for the strike zone nor is he good at pitch recognition. He has power if he can connect. Sort of another Chavis.

That said, I am still wondering if Devers will stick at the hot corner, based on his high error rate so far this year. The hope was that his errors would go down as he gained experience. Maybe the idea of moving him to 1st should be resurrected and we should be looking for a third baseman who can hit.

Hey Webster was a BA Top 100 guy at one point...

Dalbec at 3b, Devers at 1b is likely on the table....

If the Sox keep RHH Dalbec, it does make Chavis completely expendabe. Chavis has one skill - hitting LHP hard. Dalbec, as a same-side hitter, would, negate the need for a platoon at 1B with Chavis. And even if the Sox slide LHH Devers over to 1B, no way Rafael is becoming a platoon player there...

Sad because Raffy played well at 3B last year. He definitely took a step back this offseason. Remember they sent him to PAW when he first came back to Summer Camp.

Maybe he shouldn't have been. He's no Rubby De La Rosa.

The scouts for BA saw something in him they liked; but while being a ranked prospect might be an indicator of future success, it far from any sort of guarantee...

Plus, Bloom just added another future Chavis/Dalbec/Casas/Blaze Jordan type in Hudson Potts (one of the prospects picked up in the Moreland trade)... a corner infielder with big power and bigger K issues in the minors. Maybe these profiles aren't redundant but more typical of modern pros... maybe Blaze Jordan will become a .300 hitter in 5 or 10 years...

It's doubtful any of them evolve into an Adrian Gonzalez -- who was a #1 overall pick -- but can we hope at least one will have a Travis Shaw career?

I could see Potts rivaling Jeter Downs for a 2B position in the future. Potts is only a couple months younger, but has a lot more time in AA. However, he has not been remarkably successful there yet.

Well, Shaw was one of the first corner types used as a second baseman who wasn't counted on to turn DPs, but just shift into right field (in an area close enough to almost be a corner infielder). Potts is listed as 6-3, 220 at age 21...

Shaw never actually played 2B until he got to Milwaukee. The Brewers have a recently history of putting just about anyone whose ever fielded a ground ball at 2B...

You are one grumpy pollster LOL

I'm never making another one.

A few months from now I'll make another one and then just claim that me saying that "I'm never making another one" is just my gimmick.

... then Moustakas, then Boston tried it with Chavis, and the Dodgers with just about anyone. Personally, I still prefer someone there with soft, quick hands who can pivot when the DP has to be turned; bad teams stay bad with clanky, clunky infielders... and these Red Sox are a bad team.

Does a pure, all-around, star second baseman even exist anymore? Altuve's hitting .211, DJ played mostly first last year for NY, and Cano DHs half the time now.

It's ok to miss Pedroia...

The Dodgers actually had an odd habit of taking carer utility infielders (Jamey Carroll, Justin Turner, Chris Taylor, Max Muncy, Enrique Hernandez) and turning them into All Star caliber starters.

The Red Sox have a glut of utility infield types right now, including Peraza, Arauz, and Lin, but cannot get any type of production from them. I think it's Yairo Munoz Time!!

Cleveland wouldn’t trade Plesac for Benintendi at gunpoint
