Do you believe anyone will be promoted after the trade deadline?

I think the roster size gets bumped back up to 28, which would be 2 additional players.

I think we’ve gotta give Dalbec and Mata a chance, just to see what we have with them going forward!

Depends on who gets traded. If JBJ or Pillar goes, then Duran comes up. If Moreland and/or Chavis go, then Dalbec comes up. If Vazquez or Palawiki goes then one of our experienced catchers comes up, not a prospect. I don't see any pitching prospect coming up although it would be nice to see one.

Mata would be nice, but I think I'd be surprised, too, considering he wasn't all that impressive in AA last year...

They all should be up. What better time for your first cup of coffee than trying to make an impression on a historically bad team in a historically bad season? What's the worst that can happen -- the Red Sox lose more and continue to finish last? In such low pressure situations, can anyone possibly be too rushed and get scarred for life (well, unless he takes a line drive or fastball off the skull)?

Before free agency, winners and losers promoted their best prospects every September. Bloom doesn't seem like a guy obsessed with service time clocks, at least from his Rays days (has any Tampa player stuck for six years in their history?)... unless he wants to keep them more attractive as trade bait.

Well, as long as they were on the 40 man roster...

Good point... we'd hate to drop a dozen guys off this roster and expose them to the other 29 teams that already cut them.

Oh please. You know I meant historically.

But if you like, name dozen prospects worth promoting...

You know I can't work those sarcastic emojis! But I never said there were a dozen worth promoting, just a dozen on the roster worth dropping. This could be a trivia question for the future: how many players from the 2020 Red Sox ever played for them again? My over-under is 14 (and that's if the entire starting lineup returns... and I can't even name five pitchers).

From this year's pitching staff, the only pitcher I would want back next year is Hernandez. But I expect Eovaldi back, and Perez is 50/50. Barnes is most likely dealt within a few days (otherwise he would be my second pitcher I'd want back).

Beyond that? Osich and Valdez have been tolerable. Brasier is probably back. Walden is probably back, but he's not the lock I would have suspected. Taylor? I'd trade him if I thought anyone would give me anything The rest? Cut.

Weber, Mazza, Hart, Brewer, Springs, Hall, Covey, and Stock cannot go fast enough IMO...

I agree they keep DHern, plus Walden and Taylor (neither is good enough this year to trade for) and have to keep Eovaldi (his contract doesn't make him attractive for a stretch-run pick-up, and I doubt Bloom could get away with paying half the salary of another pitcher to hit the road). Those who may have any value, and so should be dealt asap: Barnes, Perez, Osich, Valdez and Braiser. Look for at least three of them to be part of multi-player swaps by Monday night...

Most teams have already passed on Valdez and Osich once. Doubtful they can play a big enough part in any trade to matter either way.

Brasier can go, too. I stopped like him after 2018...

I thought the question was who do we think WILL be up not SHOULD be up. Those are two completely different questions.

If there is a need at a certain position, or the FO anticipates a need at a certain position in the near future, then call up the prospect to get a feel for what we have. Otherwise, don't call them up just because.

The only “need” right now is to continue the prospect development. Having a few prospects face tougher competition in September isn’t a bad idea.

Also, f*** all of you for not actually voting.

I think I have always voted in your polls. If I knew enough about who could best fill our needs both long and short term, I would have answered the poll.

No good third team candidates...

My view was who will get called up was dependent on who Bloom traded. The Moreland trade left room for Dalbec. A trade of JBJ would leave room for Duran. I would have liked Moreland to be around in 2021 as a platoon player but that depended on who we got back as prospects. Whether they can make the team or be available as trade chips, they do strengthen our minors. Bloom is not standing pat. Maybe we get another trade before the deadline. Is Barnes next?

If Barnes is traded, we call him houck?

If Perez is traded, we call up pevitta?

If Martinez is traded, not sure we have anybody left to call up!
