He’d be real cheap, why not? But the winning move is Hand. He’s on short control at relatively cheap money for his prime production. Right now, his contract looks like a burden with profits gone due to covid. But if you snag him, hold him through the spring and move him before the deadline, he could end up being the top reliever on the market. Heck, we got Gleyber for an expiring elite reliever contract.

was just reading an article on the Cubs and their pending FA's. If you were Bloom, what would a package deal look like to get Rizzo into a Sox uniform? Would it be totally asinine to offer up the likes of Devers to acquire someone of his caliber?

Yes, it would be. You’ve got Devers for three more years at less money than Rizzo. Rizzo is also way older. Rizzo is a stopgap option. He’s gonna play out 2021 and then hit the market. I’d leave that one alone. You’re not a Rizzo away from title contention, unless he can pitch

I’d have to believe a one year deal with Brad Hand is really tempting. $10 mil for an elite closer is not bad. Heck, you pick him up, use him for half a season, then deal him for major prospects at the deadline, when covid should be mitigated with a vaccine and revenues start rushing back in.

If the Guardians do not want to pay $1 mill to buyout Hand, one has to wonder about the availability of Jose Ramirez ($9.4 mill). I think we can assume Lindor (~ $20mill) is also definitely out the door, but the Sox don't really need a SS right now...

Or Carlos Carrasco (2 years / $25 mill)?

Move Lindor/Xander to 2b.

After nine years, has the boy genius done enough in Chicago? I do realize he spent first three years reshuffling the deck and getting rid of inflated salaries.

They look to be on the verge of rebuild.

Do we expect more from Bloom? I certainly do.

While possible, I do not think either player would welcome the move.

And really, while Lindor absolutely is getting dealt, he is not going to be given away (unlike Hand, apparently). Not sure the Sox can outbid some of the other teams that should be interested. Like the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers.

Now Carrasco fills a bigger need for the Sox and might be available...

He did do something no other Cubs GM/President has been able to do since Teddy Roosevelt was President and the United States had only 46 states in it..

Carrasco does make more sense than Lindor.

Or not!

guys, take this how you will but, I don't see the infatuation with Devers. Why as a GM would you not be willing to move this guy while his value is high. Is he really the huge contract that Bloom is willing to take on long term? We have prospects in the pipeline at 3rd, move this guy for arms! He will only get slower and it doesn't look like he wants to become the player that wants to stay in shape and be more agile. Go ahead and roast me

Why not?

Lindor has one season left. Carrasco has 2 plus a team option. Lindor plays a position the Sox have filled for a minimum of 2 more seasons. Carrasco fills their biggest need. Lindor will undoubtedly cost more in prospects than Carrasco, although both might be out of the Sox price range in this department. (BTV lists Lindor's value surplus at $36 million and Carrasco's at $4.9 million).

Lindor is certainly the far better player and much more capable of making an impact, but his shorter deal and much higher salary makes for a tough argument for the last place Sox who still need a ton of pitching help...

What prospects do the Sox have at third? Dalbec is already in MLB and likely to start in the opposite corner spot than Devers (align them how you like). Blaze Jordan in 17 and has yet to make a single professional at-bat. If he makes the majors, it won't be for so long, Devers might already reach free agency. And that assumes he makes it at all...

Your concerns about his attitude and conditioning may be valid ones, it's hard to say.

Some think this is another reason to re-hire Cora, that he was great with Devers.

Oh.

I though your post said “doesn’t.”

Can you go back and edit it to say “doesn’t” so my response makes more sense?

Thanks in advance...

He should be on the radar. Not sure I go all in to $100 mill for a KBO player, though...

I hadn't even heard of him until I saw it on twitter today.
