He's 26 with over 2,000 plate appearances. I don't think a rough 30 AB stretch is going to harm him immeasurably.

Daily play is exactly how he gets out of it. He’s not going to start hitting while sitting on the bench moping about losing a starting job.

 

It feels like you’re trying to rationalize why it makes sense to sit him. Occasional break? Sure. But benching him for a stretch makes no sense. Let’s just be happy the worst stretch of his career happened in a season where the Sox chances of winning the AL East were about the same as my chances of winning the Nobel Prize for Joke Writing...

Somewhere between 5 and 10 years ago Ortiz had a humoungous slump that lasted a big chunk of the season. Once he came out of it, he never looked back.

 

Benintendi is no Ortiz, but he is way better than this slump and should get every opportunity to hit his way out.

 

Agree with mvp 78 that Roenicke is unlikely to return in 2021.

I seriously wonder if they should give him a full physical , including eye sight to determine if any factor is limiting his ability to swing the bat. Benintendi is becoming the next lost cause in a series of flameouts . If the answer is to keep playing him until he turns it around, try the #8 slot for awhile. Leading off, are you kidding ?

I like a 10 day phantom injury while bringing up Jarred. Maybe his hitting problems can be overcome off the MLB stage.

Benintendi just looks wrong at the plate. He is tense and guessing and not relaxing or picking proper pitches to hit. On top of that, his swing is completely out of whack.

 

He needs to calm down, relax and trust what he seeing.
