I'm not willing to go as far as giving Bloom credit for anticipating the pandemic shortened (or canceled) season, but this is a valid point. Bloom is good at what he does.

He is EXCELLENT at creating a system that knows its players better than they know themselves. He always seems to lose a deal at the time of a trade then ends up being the winner. Every, single time. He isn't the best drafter, but he knows how to dangle his pieces and who to keep. His trades launched the Rays into the playoffs last year. Don't forget, he was at the helm when the whole opener idea came to fruition as well.

I am not really a fan of the whole opener concept, but it does seem to be a strategy that is catching on and that will become commonplace. It's early and Bloom hasn't had a lot of opportunity with the Sox yet, but I am very pleased and excited to have him as our GM.

Per Abrams: Sox led the majors so far in 20 thousand dollar free agent signings with 10 (mostly arms).

I saw that the Sox signed a lot of UFAs. Hopefully, some of those arms will amount to something!

Tough to predict how good high school players will be as they progress. Most of the young pitching talent seems to come from Latin America these days . We don't know much about them until they arrive on the scene and start producing.

The top one appears to be RHP Brian Van Belle out of Miami, whom BA had at #16 on the undrafted senior list...

Maybe Bloom has a better handle on developing these young pitchers into Major League pitchers than our Ben and Theo seemed to have.

Cool. You'll have to remind of me of this name in a few years and let me know how he's doing. LOL

How can you possibly forget a name like Brian Van Belle? It’s like some sort of Irish Franco-Dutch thing going on here...

LOL I was thinking what an interesting name when I read it. But trust me when I say that I have very little difficulty forgetting things.

Worth mentioning, only Van Belle and Andrew are seniors, so the Sox might struggle to sign the majority as I believe this means they nearly all have options to return for next year's draft (barring those who hired agents)...

Good job Bloom. I really don't know any of these guys, but the more talent they can sign, the better the chances of at least some of these guys making an impact.

I thought all of these guys already signed.

Oh yeah. I guess they are free agents and not draft picks. This small draft class has confused me a bit...

The signing of 3rd round pick Blaze Jordan makes this a good draft. He is a first round talent. Red Sox strategy in Round 1 pays off.

That’s what it looks like. Jordan was a fringe first round talent, so if you consider he’d be around #25 or so if signability concerns aren’t taken into account. Consider their first rounder is really a second round talent. Now you’ve gotten first and second round value out of your first and third round picks.

He was the #1 HS prospect for 2021. He reclassed and decided to graduate HS early. I'm not sure he's "fringe first round." If he was signed by the Yanks, you'd be doing backflips over the guy.

@PeteAbe

Red Sox now have all their picks signed.

@shane_dro

Officially a Boston Red Sox, but I will forever be a Seminole!!

@redsoxstats

Looks like the Sox spent $120,100 over their draft pool allotment. I believe their penalty for that is a 75% tax on overage, so $90K.
