With Puello coming in and Pillar, it makes you wonder if JBJ is next out of town

Puello is Gorkys 2.0. He’s on an MiLB contract...

I was hoping for Puig, but this is a solid signing. Whole starting OF is left handed and I don't want to see any JD in OF.

Yes because Kevin Pillar and his robust .766 OPS against LHP will keep those southpaws honest...

Better than JBJ

Better than a Benintendi, too. But not Verdugo.

Pillar’s a platoon with JBJ. But really all he does is bring maybe slightly improved offense while maintaining elite defense...

Does this maybe mean JBJ is being traded?

I sure hope so. Bradley has proved what he can do with a bat in his hands here.....and what he can't do. Lets see if we can get a bag of used golf balls for him.

He's owed $11M. Maybe we find a team looking to save some money and had a decent pitcher making $12-18M a year. We'd still be significantly under the lux tax, but we'd be much better with our rotation and maybe close to the same in CF with Pillar/Puello vs JBJ.

Hope he comes cheap because he's overrated

He’ll be half the price of JBJ and almost the same player. Good signing. He gets hot from time to time too.

I don’t think this means JBJ is traded though. I think Bloom is just filling out his roster with guys who play hard.

Oh, you people. Sigh.

The writing is on the wall. Pillar was picked up to replace Mookie's defense in RF. Our outfield is now Benintendi, JBJ, Pillar.

How about JBJ & Chavis for Familia, Matz & DSmith? The trade simulator accepts the trade without Chavis!

It also accepts JBJ & Chavis for just Matz and Smith, but we'd probably have to give some cash.

JBJ & ____ for Danny Duffy or Ian Kennedy?

Verdugo is our FT RF'er.

This. There is no reason Verdugo shouldn’t be starting

Looking at the splits (see below), Pillar will play CF vs LHPs and maybe RF/LF when Verdugo/Beni needs a rest.

Pillar has to be slotted as the Starting CF Verdugo can play CF and Benny seems redundant to have JBJ now ? I think a trade for a starter has to be next .JBJ on the block Moon says Matz and after his tweaking his game last year I’d love this for both teams didn’t Matz improve his spin rate and his explosion ? They where just talking Matz on MLB radio this week .could we actually flip Wong and JBJ ?

SF already filled their OF.

With who? Have you seen their OF depth chart? Which of the following 3 start over JBJ?

Mike Yastrzemski (OK, he's one.)

Alex Dickerson

Steve Duggar

Hunter Pence

Billy Hamilton

Chris Shaw

Jaylin Davis

Austin Slater

JBJ isn't blocking anyone better, he appears to have little to no trade value (or he would have been moved already), and the Red Sox are now far enough below the CBT line that they shouldn't need to engage in further payroll-dumping just for the sake of it. What purpose would trading him now serve?

I think that is the idea here.

Pillar in CF vs LHP and backing up Verdugo or Benintendi in case of injuries, etc...

Matz makes $5M and has one arb left. JBJ is owed $11M and is done after this year. A one for one deal would not fly.

Maybe we pay $5-6M, but even then, I think NY says no.

We'd have to add someone (Houck? Chavis?) or take on some salary (Familia is owed $11.7M x 2 and the lux tax number is $10M x 2.) Familia & Matz for JBJ would save NY $5.7M, this year and $11.7M next year. To me, that's not fair to Boston, unless Bloom expects a Familia rebound.

Maybe JBJ for Matz & Familia +$5M?

I'd like JBJ, Houck & Chavis for Matz, Smith and Familia and $10M.
