Ok I’m on board 100 percent and it actually makes a lot of sense for the Padres in my opinion bi

Oath these teams benefit please send this round lol Moon we have something here .Send to spear asap .I would be excited for both teams .

They don't need JBJ, even if we take Myers and Margot.

This is better:

Price (+$3M), Chavis & Walden

for

Myers, Margot & Yates

I'm not sure SD would part with Yates for just this.

More likely: Price & Chavis for Margot (CF for us after we trade JBJ elsewhere) and Myers (1B for us).

We need Yates in this deal he’s the golden ticket for a special year .I may not even ask for Margot and roll with Benny in CF play Dalbec in LF ? Meyers can still play OF Hell the guy plays some CF in that cavern .price chavis walden for Yates and Meyers do you take that deal in SD ? I would .Moon how much was Kojii worth in his prime ? We could seriously see in July where the team stands and go all in for another starter and make another run now .Margot would be a nice get so how much do you eat of prices contract when we would be plugging all the holes except starter ? 14 million seems reasonable in such a scenario

I think the Padres can get more than Chavis and Walden for Yates alone.

I don't want Beni in CF, especially if we end up losing Betts in RF.

I'd add to the deal to get Yates.

I'd give Price, Chavis, Walden & Barnes (a gross overpay by the simulator) for Myers, Yates and Margot.

Maybe, Price, Chavis & Barnes for Myers and Yates.

As long as Yates is in I’m all about it

It's a perfect BDC thread title. Not sure why you'd complain about it.

Me? I hate all these dumb thread titles.

The MLB network just came out with its top ten centerfielders. JBJ was no where to be found on anyone's list of the top ten CFers. I have thought for some time that Red Sox fans had a higher opinion of JBJ than did the rest of baseball. This seems to support that view.

Well, he was 18th in dWAR for CFers with AB's above 300.

He's good, but not transcendent. I think Kiermaier has been consistently better and Pillar is about the same as JBJ IMO. Hard to really evaluate any guys outside of the AL East as I see them a lot less.

One thing to note about defensive metrics is they still depend on opportunity. Bradley had a ton of innings in CF last year but his chances per inning was actually one of the worst in MLB...

If you use the past 3 years, JBJ still only gets to 9th overall for CFers. He's a good defensive CFer, he's just far from "greatest of all time" as some people would incorrectly say on here.

If someone insists he’s the “greatest [they’ve] ever seen”, I’m ok with that.

Do they close their eyes when the Sox are hitting?

But how much of that list was influenced by offensive contributions?

And was this an all time list? Or just active players?

The writers on MLB.com are even worse when it comes to these rankings. They always favor bats over gloves, even in defensive positions. Anybody who plays knows defense is more important up the middle -- at least still at catcher, short and in center in the majors (third basemen, who shift to short more frequently than ever, are now more vital on D than second basemen, who shift to right).

Gary Sanchez is always rated near the top of these catcher lists -- solely because of his HR power -- but whether the Yankees can win with him behind the plate remains the elephant on the field.

While that may be, do you really think Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays should be replaced on the Greatest CF of All Time List by Jackie Bradley, Darren Lewis and Darryl Hamilton?

when i state JBj is the GOAT CFer...it is strictly defensive prowess. i honestly dont care if he ever gets a hit.....

And you'd still be wrong tho.

I think the point is that JBJ's salary and his comparative standing among centerfielders makes him less attractive to other teams as trade bait.

Yeah, maybe there's a reason Henry is backtracking (because his assets are untradeable).

Agreed! I have thought Price and JBJ particularly were unattractive to other teams for some time.

Price would be attractive if we ate enough money.

It could be that the offers received were so underwhelming that the Sox said screw it.

I think that is the point both Price and JBJ's contracts mean they are paid much more than they are worth to any potential trade partner.

There was never any question about that with Price.

Apparently, JBJ has positive value- meaning someone would give something for JBJ without us having to pay a cent, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't see why he has so much higher value than other great defensive CF'er who don't hit very well getting much less on the open market.

Take a guy like Jake Marisnick. He has about the same OPS as JBJ over the last 3 years, and he makes way less than JBJ. He was traded for scraps.

I certainly agree. I too will believe it when I see it.

JBJ is always on the cusp of breaking out with his hitting but he never does.
