Look again at my proposed "fire sale."

JBJ, Price, Eovaldi and Workman are not "brand favorites."

We are talking about Betts and JD. Both will be FAs after this year. Are fans that dumb, they can't see the benefit of trading them before we lose them anyways?

Plus, we can bring both back next winter.

I'd disagree about Bradley -- a lot of fans love watching him play center, and he's a good guy (signing for the kids, taking pics at Winter Weekend -- I know such appearances are nigh obligatory, but JBJ was really nice to all ages, when other players acted like they were getting root canals). Eovaldi is also a hero -- at least in my house -- as a Yankee-killer; even Price is more popular to some for three straight starts in '18...

But obviously, most fans aren't as fanatical as us, who argue online all winter about strategies that no one with any real power will ever care about. Yes, we will still watch NESN after Betts is traded, but the average member in good standing of RS Nation at least needs an up-and-coming replacement like Verdugo to cheer for and not a mere Naylor.

Can't you just hear them, the second someone stumbles around in right field... "We traded Mookie for this?!?" Click... off.

I've been in Fenway and heard similar thoughts after Damon was traded, after Coco was let go, after Ells went to FA... It's just the nature of the beast.

This is both convoluted and questionable.

So is the argument to "go for it" after everybody is already signed elsewhere.

It was meant to be convoluted.

JBJ is my favorite player, but his contract is a drag.

There are other equally great defensive CF'ers out there at a fraction of the cost.

The only point being made was about the likelihood of JD opting out at the end of the year.

True, and I feel less sure about him opting out now as I did a few months ago.

My thinking is that after another good year, which I expect, he will seek a 4-5 year deal worth less than $19M a year but with more total value than $38M.

I hope we can find a way to keep him beyond 2020, but unless we reset, I can't see us re-signing him, if he opts out.

If he stays- he stays. 2 more years should still be worth it, for us, but if we have to reset in 2021, it's kind of pointless.

Because it's such a bad contract that nobody wants to hold onto him long term. Immediate regret.

That's why it'll be hard to move JD.

Yet they found takers twice...

Hmm...when asked to rank the Dodgers' chances of landing Betts on a 1 to 10 scale (1 being no way, 10 being a lock), Buster Olney answered 8.5...

While I've talked myself into not hating some of the Padres trade scenarios, the Dodgers have always seemed to make the most sense here...

It'll be Mookiewood.

I honestly believe if the Dodgers do trade for Mookie they are a threat to sign him to an extension.

See I don’t consider them a threat to. Those long term mega contracts just are not their style. I figure locking up Cody Bellinger is just as important if not more so to them, and the last thing they need is Betts throwing the whole pricing scheme into the troposphere.

Right now the longest contract on the Dodgers’ books is the 6 year $30 mill contract they gave to Yasiel Sierra. If they didn’t go 10 years $350 mill for Kershaw, why do you think they suddenly do for Betts?

Anyway, everyone should check out the latest SoxProspects podcast as they talk a ton about potential Betts deals and the recent DFA moves.
