This 2017 Astros sign stealing admission from Mike Fiers is taking off. Now three other former Astros have confirmed this and the three guys at the center are all managers now. Hinch is still manager of the Astros. Cora now manager of the Sox. And 2017 Astros DH Carlos Beltran is now manager of the Mets. All have been implicated in an elaborate technological method of stealing signs from the catcher using a camera hidden in the CF wall and relayed to the hitter by banging on garbage cans in the dugout.

This pisses me off as a Yankee fan. We kicked their ass at our park in 2017 in the ALCS yet lost all four games in Houston, including 3 1 run games. This is the ultimate in cheating. Punishments should be extremely severe. Multiple first round picks. Multi million dollar fines. Major suspensions for those who concocted this. And Hinch should lose a full season for being the final say so.

This couldn’t come at a worse time for the Astros. They just won the ROY and CY and have a good shot at MVP. They were three innings from winning another WS. But with the Brandon Taubman incident really showing that the Astros front office doesn’t know how to navigate this day and age and now the Astros being the only ones investigating at this point, it’s clear MLB needs to investigate and fix this

actually the "ultimate of cheating" would be the 2 game 7 2003 ALCS homeruns that giambi hit that barely cleared the wall.....

I understand Robert Mueller is free to take on new investigative assignments

This is the Sox forum and now the manager of the Red Sox is implicated. That’s the new news of the day

So this story didn't catch your attention till Cora's name popped up? That's odd.

I will wait until investigation is over but....

Cheaters should be punished......millions in fines and make the team ineligible for playoffs in 2020. You can't do this. How can you feel good about winning the

World Series knowing you cheated? Unreal.

In Canada we don't fool around. We impeached Don Cherry so fast he didn't know what hit him. :P

We took forever to impeach Bud Selig.

Seriously, how was that man allowed to be MLB Commisioner?

Giuliani is a diehard Yankee fan. Cora is toast.

Does MLB even punish sign stealing? So many teams have been caught, but what's the worst thing that happened to any of them?

Using technology to do it is the issue. I think we will see some penalties this time.

But even using technology has been done for years, even before the whole Apple Watch incident...

did the sox get fined for the pedroia iphone debacle?

The Sox did, but so did the Yankees, as the Sox defense was that both teams were stealing signs...

I know. I just have the feeling this time is going to be different. This is a serious PR issue, with suggestions that it may have impacted who won the trophy in '17.

I'm actually impressed teams can steal signs even with technology. The catcher and pitcher often vary the important sign in the sequence, which can change with every pitch. Something like "strikes plus one", so on a one strike count, the second sign is the true sign. If another strike is thrown, the third sign becomes the important one and the others are decoys.

And they can change the modifier at any time, to maybe "balls plus two" or whatever. Merely recording it and watching the signs play out is still very difficult to establish what is the actual sign...

What's kind of comical is the 'low-tech' way the info was allegedly relayed from dugout to hitter, i.e. banging on a garbage can...

right!?

in a discussion with coworkers i had this to say earlier this morning:

It is kind of funny the dichotomy of using very high tech hidden camera in the CF wall to view the catchers signs but then the basic Neanderthal relay of the sign to the batter by banging on a metal garbage can.

I was thinking the same thing. it is kind of cool I think. old school all the way.

Guys, this is WAY bigger than the Pedroia thing. That was gamesmanship with some technology. This is a camera focused in on the catcher with someone relating the signs to the batter. It was bad enough that a member who got a World Series ring who is still playing ratted them out. And, the team that cheated won the whole damn thing. Imagine how much MLB is relieved that Kendrick hit that homer and the Nats won. A dynasty with two titles in three years built off cheating. People will be suspended for a LONG time. Fines will be huge. Draft picks will be taken.

My guess is Cora may have to serve a suspension.

I'm thinking, how can the Astros not have known an ex-player would spill the beans at some point? If I was an ex-Astro and I was facing them in a game, I'd tell my team, anyway.

C-BlOOM gonna put WTF! on the hot seat now for sure. not a good look!

first they make fun of woman abuse. now techie cheating. too bad Astros couldn't get big hits like that vs the Nats.

i was wondering why all visiting teams were using multi signs with no one on base in houston during the playoffs. now we know why.
