Another loss attributed to weak starting pitching. The BP did their job and the offense sputtered but still scored 5. Imagine if Betts, Bogie and JDM hit a little. Another nail in the coffin and at a time we might have gained a little ground.

The Cora may have to get the BP in the game earlier.

Come on guys. The writing is on the wall.

This team refuses to rise up when needed. It's been repeated over and over this year.

This is sickening. It hurts to watch us come so close time after time. We start to look like we're turning the corner and BAM!

I hate this s***!

This loss hurts big time. Thanks rick

You don't have to thank me; this is what I do for a living. Best regards from Big Dick.

ps: I do wish the Cora had pulled me earlier. He must have seen something in me tonight that I didn't see.

3-51 when trailing after 6 innings got you down , Moon? Phuquing gutless wonders . Now need to go 15-9 (.625) to get 89 wins. Porcello pukes up 2 bombs in one inning to bury his guys. beni hits another doesn't matter HR. At least Hans Solo honored his own name.

You're still waving the Beni pompoms I see. :D

Yeah, I figured some people would lay this one on Cora for not hooking Porcello sooner. I mean, why shouldn't he rely totally on our vaunted bullpen, and let them pile up the innings with only 6 more straight days to go against the Twins and Yanks offenses? Right on.

come on. at this point of the season and the position we find ourselves in you very wll know that we have to treat every game like its must win. granted i've been pretty tough on Cora all season but perhaps you have been too easy on him?

it's a 40 man roster, we can burn arms to the ground.

I guess my only real issue with not quick hooking Rick is that the guy is just pitching on guts alone.....nothing else. Its obvious. Rick's courage is commendable. But when that is all the pitcher is taking out to the mound with him and you have the arms in the pen, you have to quick hook him.

Burn crappy arms to the ground, you mean.

We got nobody better than Porcello, and that pretty much sums it all up.

He had done pretty well in his previous starts, and the guy is known to be streaky.

He's also known for giving up a bomb and then settling down.

I am not sure I have ever seen Rick pitch on guts alone before this year. But I have seen other pitchers stuck pitching on guts alone. You simply cannot let them try to "work out" of it when their pitches start to straighten out in a stint. You're just asking for it then.

The first howitzer shot should have been the last and given the inning somebody should have already been up in the pen.

Could be worse. The Mets (of course) blew a 6 run lead in the 9th inning tonight. Teams entering the 9th inning with a 6 run lead were 274-0 coming into today.

Naw we are still worse. Winning the World Series and then to have this season is beyond embarrassing. Thank god for NFL season....

While I am of course torqued at Porcello for the final dinger, I completely agree with the decision to leave him in until he gave up that final dinger to make the score 6-0 after 4 1/2 innings.

Yes, absolutely, the bullpen did a heckuva job shutting down the Twins for 5 innings, but that was as hard to predict as that 4 run rally in the bottom of the 5th.

I don't have much faith in Porcello this year, but before last night he had a very good August and earlier had pitched well against the Twins.

Too many of the Sox starters are crappy at keeping the ball low in the strike zone, and Porcello is the worst of them all. Ironically, that pitch Devers hit out was a great slider, low and inside.

I read Ian Browne's puff piece today on an alleged playoff roster. It said we have 2 of MLB's best 2 way Of'ers , oh and JBJr too. So based on Brownie's assessment, I have to change my thinking and become a Beni Backer.

Agreed. Keeping Porcello in isn't as bad as some think. One thing I will say about Rick is he usually adjusts after a bad inning or 2.... But last night unfortunately it just went from bad to worse for Rick. This season can't end fast enough for him.

Aside from discussing Rick's shortcomings, how about Mr. Betts, Bogaerts, and JDM's 0-11, the team's 1-9 with RISP. Devers redeemed his 1-5 with 3 Ks by making the 1 count for 3 runs. Beni's 2 hits accounted for 1 run. Bad day with the bats .
