TylerD is going for a purple heart or something because tonight's game is fraught with peril. For starters, so far this year our guys have a losing record at Fenway. We have good hitting--hooray! hooray--but can be shut down by good pitching, and Tanaka (ERA 4.00) is pitching tonight--and he is backed up by one of the best bullpens in MLB. The Yankees also have good hitting, and Porcello is going for the Sox--he of the 5.61 ERA.

Nevertheless, a game worth watching because these two teams are one of the best rivalries in sports. Fenway is a very photogenic ball park, and ain't nothing guaranteed for either side in a MLB game. Tanaka has a better repertoire and normally better control than Porcello, but he is anything but unbeatable this year. Forget the London game when both were terrible. I just like this Sox lineup. Lefties have a .787 OPS vs. Tanaka, and Cora can put several decent ones (especially Devers and Holt) out there and some good righty bats too.

I got this mostly right, except the part about forgetting London because clearly Tanaka hasn't.

Good call by tylerD to start the thread on a positive note.

The most amazing thing, imho, that happened in this game was POR going 6 full innings with a 47 pitch 2nd.

A gritty performance for which of course he won no plaudits. Not on a talksox game thread, no sir.

Was a solid game all around. Offense was ruthless, Porcello was fantastic outside of the 2nd and the bullpen played very good. I just hope we saved some runs for today.

Tanaka had nothing. Boone essentially burned him down to ash to save our pen. Paxton today who had been rolling before his last start. Seems like a theme. The rotation had been pretty solid until we ran into the final 2 games vs Colorado, the 3 in Minnesota and 1 in Boston. One full turn + 1 of dogshit

Given last night's decisive victory over Jack's boys, I can rest easy no matter what happens knowing that when it counted the Red Sox embarrassed the Yankees but good in front of the hungry Fenway faithful. The Yankees can go on and do whatever they will the rest of the way, but when things are looking tough for Boston, just replay the first four innings from last night and all will be well. Not yet 2004 level and may never be, but that looked slightly familiar.

Your boys are 2-6 vs us and the first win was vs the Yankees C team lineup because Boone decided to rest everyone vs Price. Yesterday was the first game you guys won with us actually giving it our all. And you won quite convincingly. That being said, it's a single game and now the pen is rested.

Tanaka didn't have good command, with which he can be very tough. He threw 87 pitches, so I don't see the "burned him down to ash," but do see it as a logical move to save the bullpen. As it turned out, Tarpley was almost as bad, but my guess is Boone isn't worried about saving Tarpley. Maybe not Romine either.

Fun for Sox fans, but hardly a Sox-Yankees classic. The next three are likely to be closely contested and/or the Yankees lineup will gore a Sox starter.

Still a convincing win and at the end of the day records mean nothing. Houston had our number going into the playoffs last year and we beat their ass in 5 games. Not saying we would beat the Yankees this year come playoffs, just saying in general.... But yes the Yanks have owned us so far.... Which is why last night was that much sweeter.

The only good thing about getting stomped like that from the 1st inning is that it frees up the rest of your night.

Ya that has happened to the Sox quite a bit this year so I have had a chance to do other things haha.

lately Minnesota seems to be everyone's bitches. up 11 games in the division and now just up 1 or 2 on Cleveland is embarrassing. Minnesota has fallen flat on their face and now that Cleveland is healthy they are rolling. The Guardians could be a very dangerous team come playoffs.

I'm still high from last night's game. Boy did that feel like 2018. Reinforces my love for Big Dick Rick

I was Cora, I would tell my boys Turn that page quickly, forget about last night very fast. Good win, but move on quickly.

The Yankees's problematic rotation is being exposed more and more . That will continue . It is simply not very good . Certainly not championship caliber .
