What is MLB going to do without pitchers.....play t-ball, maybe put pitching machines out there. Never mind robot umps. MLB may need robot pitchers before they need robot umps.

I think L-Screens should be used to protect their terribleness.

MLB network just put up a stat: Tanska’s ERA against the Sox this year is 33.75.

Edit - Moreland’s hit just raised it to 38.25.

2nd Edit- Vazquez makes it 40.50

That's enough for me. Time to do some work and shut this crap off.

Make sure you jump right back on when the Yankees score some runs

It was just outside the corner actually. It didn’t touch the box.

My picture of it says it was right on the corner.

Look it the s*** these guys pitch. I'm sorry.....assuming this ONLY gets worse from here, and I would assume that since it will be at least 5 years before MLB can backfill this hideous pitching I really don't know what MLB is going to do. It is going to be pretty obvious even to casual fans that something is entirely f***ed with MLB pitching.

Hey, he stuck around all the way to 11-2 and not without some pain.

11-2. This is. A beat down!

It’s a good start to this series but it’s one game. It’s a big series for us to show we can compete against these guys.

I'm telling ya, it's the new ball. The new threads keep the pitchers from being able to grip it and they make the ball travel farther. If it was just the Sox I'd agree with those who say the Sox pitching sucks but it's a problem every pitcher is having and it's worse for the finesse pitchers.

I know from nothing about seams and pitchers, but the pitches I've seen this year seem to break as much as in previous years--except maybe for Wright's knuckler.

Good point, but, personally, I blame it on too many teams and not enough talent.

Might be different tomorrow with cashner. Glad Porcello rebounded after an ugly 2nd.

We shall see but you have to try and take that game. I don’t want a split against these guys. I want to win a series against them.

This trend started before 2016 and the first of this generation of rocket baseballs. This is about a 10-15 year trend line in the wrong direction. I would agree that in a number of ways the rocket ship has exacerbated the situation. But the trend line was established well before the rocket ship. Unfortunately this is not an overnight occurrence and the fix will not be overnight either. Will be awhile before MLB can wash through this crap pitching IMO. Getting rid of the rocket ship would certainly be welcome for a number of reasons.

MLB network stat

Only one Yankee pitcher has ever given up more earned runs in a game than Tanaka’s 12 tonight. Carl Mays gave up 13 in a game in 1923.

I know that someone somewhere probably has stats on how much pitches are breaking this year and we'll probably hear about it sooner or later.

What I know about the new ball is that the threads aren't as high - Manfred said so - and logic would tell me that the lower the threads are the harder time a pitcher will have gripping them. If he can't grip the threads to make the ball spin the ball won't spin as much, therefore the ball won't (or shouldn't!) break as much.
