To not fire Dana Levangie is criminal the only f***ing job he has is to get these pitchers prepared and NOT ONE Has been allll freaking year get that ugly POS OuT of here TONIGHT

The ump Was terrible though. The last pitch by Workman Was borderline strike or a ball but he was giving Tampa pitchers that callall night and then he calls it a ball which got them a run. That was a blown and inconsistent called by the ump. Call the game fair workman gets the close. Hate seeing f***ing trash like that.

Put it in the books!

Sox win!

PS- The Pen is still trash and we cannot expect to win one post season contest with it. Let’s not be delusional.

Not ready to call them trash. Last night Barnes pitched a clean 7th and Workman a clean 8th, so Cora brought him back (with his 2.17 ERA) to finish. A leadoff single, but then a reasonable double play ball, but Chavis was slow and made a bad throw, so just 1 out. Then a K, so 2 outs with a man on 1b. Then, inexplicably, the walk, followed by another single, followed by another walk. Out goes Workman, in comes Walden, who walks Pham on 4 pitches with the bases loaded to make it 5-4. And just like that two good pitches by Walden, both strikes, that lead to an easy ground out to 1B with of course our catcher playing 1B.

Lost in the game narrative of course is the great job Cora did last night--using Leon to get the most out of Sale, saving Vazquez for the perfect moment to pinch hit, then keeping him in at 1B, and making great decisions on keeping Sale in and then managing the bullpen at a crucial juncture.

Oakland wins. No ground. We need to keep winning.

Oakland doing what they do. Second half stretch where they look like an invincible army. Very annoying

Way too much drama in the 9th inning. But had Chavis done a better job getting the ball to Bogaerts for the DB, it might have been a very different inning.

Sale still needs to be more efficient with his pitch count, but props to him for grinding through that 6th inning.

We'll take the W.

If Cora had brought Eovaldi in to close, and Eovaldi blew the save, we would be reading all the posts about WTF was Cora thinking bringing Eovaldi in to close after his poor performance the night before.

This team has to play with the knife between their teeth moving forward if we want to grab a PO spot.

Has Cora officially said that he is our closer?

Is he ready to pitch in back to back games? Is he ready to pitch in high leverage situations after only one rehab game?

Didn't Cora said he will pitch from the bullpen and eventually be our closer, or something to that effect? I for one didn't think Nathan was coming back right into the closing role. At least give him a couple games to get his feet wet before throwing him into that role.

Time to start the next game thread. Game starts in an hour.

What!?!? It's a day game, I forgot. Someone create the thread dammit

yes?

Eovaldi, normally a starting pitcher, is now expected to take over as Boston's closer after the bullpen has blown a combined 18 saves this season, a total tied for the third-most in Major League Baseball entering Saturday. Manager Alex Cora and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski announced that decision prior to the July 2 road game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Slash, he pitched 1 inning in Pawtucket before being promoted.

You don't think a little transition period is prudent???

I 100% do. but they literally said he will be the closer the moment he returns from 60 day IL. now i get that at the time they were saying it to placate a fan base that just watched our beloved team get obliterated by the hated yankees in london. but they said it. so i am holding them to it.
