The Giants are rising, so BumG might not be available---saving him for the World Series.

Stroman would take a lot to get since every contender is interested. I think he's on a one year contract. I'm not sure what his contract situation is next year?? That would factor into the value of the trade players. I'd love to see him here... but the cost.

Really love Stroman stuff .Madbum is such a bulldog and could provide a fire we need .Both pitchers have an edge a chip that we are sorely missing .I push the chips in go all in on Stroman .

Sorry. I will no longer provide you with accessible links to answer your questions.

It’s a shame. Normally I would tell you it’s a really good (not perfect, but really good) website where you can try to make feasible trades and get community feedback. But as you think I am making your life miserable, I won’t tell you about it. Please ignore this paragraph...

Sell sell sell. No way in hell we should trade a single prospect at this point. We should be in the business of obtaining meaningful prospects now that we have lost a series to the woeful Orioles. Within about a week or so we will be 6-7 games out of the last WC spot.

While the media is talking about the sox sending scouts to see MadBum and Stroman, I think the scouts are actually looking at Smith and Giles. The sox could use some rotation help, but not as badly as they need pen help. Also, the pen help should be more easily acquired

Exactly. None of those reports explicitly linked us to Bumgarner or Stroman...it seems far more likely our scouts were there to watch these teams' relievers.

Agree with the OP. DD picked up Price, Sale, Porcello, and Eovaldi--and others--and for the most part they have not earned their pay.

Price is close.

Sale has exceeded his pay so far... by a long shot.

Porcello earned the money Ben paid him.

Eovaldi cost us pennies last year. This year is another story, but overall, he has about earned his 2018-2019 salary combined.

DD traded Porcello to the Red Sox, not for them, as he was GM of the Tigers at the time.

The contract extension wasn’t him either...

I don't think we should sell. I think we should try to make 1 or 2 small tweaks without going over the next tax limit, and play this out with what we have. What we have should be as good as any team out there. They either find their stride, or they don't. But it's too early to give up on the season.

It appears to me that our position players (as a team) are as good as anyone in baseball and maybe better. Our problem is starting pitching, and even then it's not the entire staff. Selling off position players not only gives up on this year it gives up on next year too. As Kimmie says, either they find their stride or they don't but I wouldn't sell off our position players in exchange for other position players. It's very difficult to fill our needs by trading position players for established pitchers. Anyone who has established pitchers wants to keep them.

I'd be looking to trade some of our "spare parts" (not named Brock Holt) looking for a gem of a AAA pitcher or someone who's underperforming for another team.

Charlie Blackmon ? He's on the block .I would love to see Mookie Jackie and Charlie play together THREE center fielders .Charlie would be insurance if Mookie left .

He would be a nice addition, and especially for your last reason - as insurance against Mookie leaving. However, We'd have to give something (someone) up to get him and I'd rather spend our resources on our weakest area - pitching.

Dewey I'm thinking about the future with this aquisition not the present as you pointed out ,It would mean offloading our top 3 prospects and a player like Marco .I think I would do it for this player and hope like heck JDM decides to opt out lol

That works if you've given up on this year and I'm not quite there yet. I'm not greedy. I don't need another WS Championship. I'm still holding out hope that the Sox can get one of the WC spots and then eliminate the Yankees in the Playoffs.

Yeah, that would be a successful season. :D

I don't know, I think the 4 earned pay and then some for a WS title last year. I'll trade the inconsistency, injuries and ineffectiveness of this year for that, and still know that if all 4 start to throw well, the team could go on a monster streak. If the Sox grab a wild card that's all that matters for 2019.

Danny you are definitely in the majority on this .I acknowledge Charlie B has warts the size of hubcaps on his home away splits .I may be an idiot to think Fenway maybe really kind to his bat who knows ? I don't know how to do overlays of different parks so it's pure wish casting .

Our starting pitchers, on paper, should be as good as any rotation out there. They haven't performed up to expectations yet, but if they can get it together, the Sox can make a strong run at another WS.

Last year, there were also a LOT of concerns about our pen being able to compete in the playoffs. We need to remember that Cora will manage the pen differently in the playoffs than he does in the regular season, including having or starters pitch in relief.

we have to make it to the playoffs for Cora to even be able to do that.... Starters can get us deep into games and leave with the lead only to have the BP blow the lead or almost cost us the win.... we need arms who can put hitters away while keeping the ball in the zone and not giving up the walks like our boys continue to do.

We cant pitch at home. Both Starters and Relievers. That's why I say become Road Warriors this year for Play-offs.

Ranked 23rd at home with 5.00 ERA

Road ranked 8th with a 4.35 ERA

Our pen does need to do better, for sure. I can see Dombrowski adding one BP arm before the deadline. Along with Eovaldi, Hernandez, and maybe some other internal options, hopefully that will do the trick.

Even if this weren't the case, I often feel like starting on the road in the playoffs works out better. Win one game out of the first two, and the advantage swings to the road team.

The rumores surrounding Madison Bumgarner are smoke. We would not trade for him nor would we or could we trade away JD Martinez. Someones fantasy. I agree, thatt if we went after anyone it would be a solid BP arm. Perhaps Will Smith is one of the leading targets if we do anything at all.

Unless we split or win the Yankee series, we could shift to sellers, so DD may wait to see the outcome of the Yankee series before making any moves.
