Mookie is 5’9”. Yastrzemski was 6’0”.. give or take.

Baseball-Ref says Yaz was 5'11" and 175 pounds. So 2 inches taller and about the same weight. Not much of a difference IRT to the durability issue being discussed.

Bradley is listed at 5'10. Mookie seems 2" shorter when next to him. Anyway, I think build more than height has more to do with longevity. So, not a factor with Mookie--although I read that he tries to make himself look fatter than he is (maybe his listed weight is false)

We'll see how long Chris Sale goes on. Matt Duffy is 6'2 170.

Being shorter is probably more of a drawback for a pitcher than it is for a position player . It can even help a hitter because of the smaller strike zone . Mookie certainly seems to be strong enough . No problem here .

You’re comparing a player from the 60s-70s era, one of the toughest players to ever play the game to Mookie Betts. Articles have been written on how particularly tough Carl was.. even for that era. To compare him to Betts as a reference point is not really fair to Mookie.

Don't misunderstand, Yaz is my all-time favorite. I'm just taking issue with the idea that Mookie's size will prevent him from having a long, productive career.

Yaz was neither thin or short.. not in anyone's eyes. Mookie looks short and fairly slim in everyone's eyes. I don't believe either his height or his weight. I would love to see Ronald Toreyez stand next to him. Ronnie is like 5-7+ and weighs around 145.

FWIW, During a few innings at Ft. M. the Sox had Bobby Dalbec (6'4", 225) @ 3B and Jeremy Rivera (5'9", 150) @ SS. Standing side by side they looked like Mutt & Jeff. :D

Judge is a better player than Betts. Judge is a 0.049 WAR per game player at the big league level, Betts is a .045 WAR per game player (pretty close). Judge has broken a wrist on a pitch (not under his control) and pulled an oblique (we shall see if this becomes a trend). Betts has been remarkably healthy for a small man playing with such skills, and as we saw with Pedroia, that wont last. I would take Judge over the next 5 years over any OFer not named Mike Trout, IMO. Judge also has the higher upside due to his insane power. Betts is a great player, no doubt, and I am sure the Yanks would be interested, but we will still have Stanton, Judge, Torres, Voit, Andujar, Hicks, and Sanchez under control when Betts hits the open market and I would presume we would prioritize re-signing a guy like Lemahieu over spending $30+ mil on Betts. If we were to spend $30+ mil on someone, it would be a pitcher.

With Judge’s body type he won’t have anywhere near the length of career that Betts has playing in the field.

Per Pete Abraham on Twitter:

Betts is hitting 8th in place of Bogaerts, so unlikely he will bat in the game unless the AL sends seven men to the plate in the 8th.

Kind of strange.

Cora said Mookie looked tired. I don't think he wanted Mookie in the game, even only for one at bat.

It was his “rest” day

My takeaway from the all star game didn't involve our players, but involved the various starting pitchers from both leagues. Despite the incredible lineups they faced, these guys were able to handle the hitters. They were better than any of our starters and if we faced them, they could shut us down. Our two that currently can do a decent are E-Rod and Price. If we do something creative with pitching this year, it won't come cheaply and we had better get resources that remain with us through 2020.

Not disputing what you are saying, but I think you also have to take into account the way the ASG is managed, which is far different than how regular season games would be played.

I watched the game last night, and must say that I found it to be a fun and entertaining game. Good pitching and it was a close game. I enjoyed it.

NBA All-Star game haven't watched that crap in years. NHL All-Star, love Hockey hate that game, NFL- forget it.

Still love the MLB All-Star game, they still play with pride. Loved it since I can remember.

Guys running hard down to 1st base, guys getting their bodies in front of 110 mph grounders, proud of those kids played the game right.

I only watched about four hitters. I found it unwatchable with Buck's ongoing commentary and conversations with players while they were on the field. Who thought that was a good idea??

In the time I watched it the game reminded me of Fox's usual coverage of baseball when they talk about everything BUT the game.

The final straw for me was when one of the commentators (not Buck) was talking about a close play at 1b and said that "the tie goes to the runner".

I liked it, something different. Didn't mind it at all. The difference in this game was because of commentators? You must have hated Football with Cosell. That guy was absolutely the worse, still watched the game. Still do with the chuckleheads now.

Point is either you like the game or you don't. Sometime I turn the sound off, or listen to music. I can still concentrate to watch the game. You go to a live game, you watch it without commentators.

As far as play on the field, they did a darn good job, of playing the hard, and focus, and not worried about getting hurt. Each team wanted to beat the other, just like regular game.

Slamming other announcers is almost obligatory for Sox fans . I find it kind of funny because I get the MLB package , and I hear a lot of them . I would honestly say that , to me , Dave O'Brien is one of the worst .

Most fans hate announcers who don’t overtly fellate their team and players...

Nothing wrong with O'Brien most of the time. He has a good broadcast voice and some of his calls over the years have been terrific.

100% agree with this.

MLB AS Game has sucked since the tie.

The last time I enjoyed the all star game was 99 in Fenway.

The last Home Run Derby I enjoyed was the one that Josh Hamilton hit like 35 HR.

‘99 was special.
