Mookie had a great year leading off last year. The SOX won 119 games. So it only makes perfect sense that Cora would bat Mookie 2nd this year. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

The water Cora was walking on last year is neck high this year.

12-2 win one night and 10-3 loss the next. Now that's the 1950's era Red Sox . Back to my young days. Still somewhat early but the trend is not this team's friend yet. Come June, the "early " BS will start to fade as various personnel decisions will need to be made if they intend to be serious contenders.

They’re six games back in the loss column and the Yankees don’t seem to lose. They look like we did last year. They’re just starting to win games left and right. This team is too inconsistent. Might as well play for a second wild card . The slow start on the west coast might have doomed this team.

I agree with a700hitter, assuming he isn't being facetious. Last year's Yankees were very good, and this year's are too despite the injuries. I'd say they are back, but of course I also don't think they will return to the kind of dominance that led to 5 straight WS wins, etc.

John Henry has definitely made a difference, which is why under his ownership the Sox have won 4 WS (2004, 2007, 2013, and 2018) to the Yankees 1 (2009).

John Henry took a different approach to the dinosaur George “buy everyone” practice. Theo revolutionized the game for big markets. Cashman finally was allowed to do the same and he’s built this team into a sustainable juggernaut. I think this Yankee team has a big window coming especially with the two seasons coming in where they were top notch but ran into two buzzsaws. The Sox and Astros are the only teams capable of stopping a fully loaded Yankee squad. The Sox look unprepared and the Astros look formidable. The Astros are in what I expect to be their final year of dominance with Cole coming off the books and Springer getting real expensive. They’ll be good, but losing a their second ace isn’t going to be good for them. This is the final year, IMO, of the Sox window and they’re playing worse than expectations.

Winning the WS is all about how good your team is and how good the competition is. The AL is a wasteland and with two of the juggernauts set to fall off over the next two years, the Yanks May have an unimpeded path to the series

The Red Sox and Yankees have 17 more games with each other this year, I think. The war has not yet really begun. I do understand your optimism, though.

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora had some choice words for Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman following Tuesday's game between the two clubs.

Cora wasn't thrilled after Stroman - known for his demonstrative nature on the mound - tossed an apparent quick pitch against Red Sox rookie second baseman Michael Chavis in the fourth inning.

"I was telling (home plate umpire) Alan (Porter), if he's going to get on our guys, get on him," Cora said, according to Keegan Matheson of Baseball Toronto. "It's the same thing with him every day. He competes a certain way and people don't like it.

"It seems like whenever a team comes in, somebody screams at him. I don't know, that's the way he acts."

Chavis and Boston ace Chris Sale also appeared to direct some words at Stroman during the contest, but the Jays pitcher didn't seem bothered by the exchange following the game.

"Don't know (what Sale said), could care less," Stroman told Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. "That was between me and (Chavis). That's it. I could care less what anybody else says."

Stroman threw six innings of one-run ball and now owns a 2.81 ERA in 2019.

"That just tells me my stuff is exactly where I thought it would be," the 28-year-old said. "My stuff's nasty right now and there's times when I lose it because almost it's too nasty and I can't find the zone with my sinker.

"I'm not scared to face anybody at any time and I'm able to bear down and make big pitches in big moments."

Stroman on Twitter:

@MStrooo6

I compete. That’s it. Didn’t know I had to cater to opposing teams to like me. Everyone messes with timing, deliveries and pitching mechanics these days. Everyone. Get over it. I’m going to keep that dawg mentality always. Pops raised me right and approves of it all!

So what's the issue with Stroman? He threw a quick pitch?

Yup. It looked fine when I watched it back. Chavis took forever in the box and called time for no reason. He deserved a quick pitch.

Though I agree a bit. They are leading the division and winning a lot. If we continue to play like this (which isn’t bad but still inconsistent) and the Yanks play the way they are they will win the division. It’s as simple as that.

Benintendi, Bradley, Leon and Vazquez taking early BP here in Toronto. Alex Cora doing the pitching.

Thank you for saying that about winning the WS. I guess this means the Yankees should provide a footnote next to the 27 so people will know a lot of them were just good luck.

In other words, I think your thesis is dead wrong. I am perfectly happy giving the Yankees full credit for the 27, but it wasn't bad luck that has held them to 1 WS since 2000. Nope. It's all those darn wild card teams plus the sheer quantity of teams making it to the postseason. Way back when 2 of 16 played in the WS, period. Now it's 10 of 30 playing in the wild card, the division series, the league series, and finally the world series.

Can't disagree with the first paragraph because you could be right on all counts.
