He found his velocity last night. He’s been a K machine even at lower velocities, but he’s Chris Sale when he’s got 95 in the tank. We saw this with CC in 2012-2013. The velocity would fluctuate and he’d be a world beater when he had 95, and a bum when he has 91. Sale seems to have adjusted to the loss of velocity then got it back for a night. He’d be better prepared for his future if he pitched like he had no velocity and when he has it, he’ll be filthy

He was 94 to 94.5 and even 95+ on several of his earlier starts...

Pitching much better. Hope it continues.

No need to "hope," except for no injuries.

This is...

Chris Freakin' Sale

we're talking about!

Dude has been rock solid last couple starts. Rotation is looking back to form. Take away one inning from Porcello his last couple starts and he’s been amazing too.

Check back with me in a month Harmony.

As of today, Fangraphs has the Sox chances of making the playoffs at 79.5%.

Seattle is at 2.7%.

Fangraphs is strictly for stats . They know nothing about odds and gambling . Check with the wise guys for the correct odds .

But the Vegas oddsmakers have to take the amount of action on a team into account, which means nothing about their chances for making the postseason...

What good is Fangraphs opinion on their chances of making the playoffs when it changes every day ?

Fangraphs is not an opinion but an automatic statistical calculation.

It's useless. But so are the Vegas odds. No one knows s***.

They don't know any more about what's going to happen in games or seasons than you or I or any other informed fan.

They know how to set odds and spreads. They're very good at what they do, I'm not saying they aren't.

Just to expand on this a bit...

If you're interested in Vegas and gambling and oddsmaking, Casino is a great read. It was of course made into a movie with DeNiro, Pesci and Sharon Stone.

The characters played by DeNiro and Pesci were based on Lefty Rosenthal and Tony Spilotro.

In the early days of Vegas Rosenthal was one of the guys who really instituted big-time sports betting, and he was considered to be a very astute oddsmaker.

Spilotro meanwhile had a bit of a gambling problem, and he would try to hit Lefty up for some hot tips. Lefty's advice was always the same: don't bet.

I liked the movie a lot . " Don't bet " is very good advice .

For someone who thinks advanced metrics are ruining the game, what do you think Begas oddsmakers use? They go waaaay beyond anything Fangraphs offers. These guys aren’t some mafioso Vinnie “the Squid” Calamari. Those odds are made by people like MIT alum and Nerd Extraordinaie Jeff Sagarin...

You might be right . I checked with my local bookmaker , Paul " Needlenose " Minagge . He said , " Yeah , that Jeff , he is a good boy. He helps us out with some things."

Shortly after playing us, Seattle took a nose dive.

As the saying goes, it's not who you play, it's when you play them.

I almost feel bad for them. They just went 1-6 in New York and Boston.

Almost.

I have nothing against Seattle, except for when they're playing us.

I do feel bad for most teams when they're struggling.

Sale's strikeout-to-walk ratio last three starts: 41-to-1.

That's absurd!

And, people doubted the great...

Chris Freakin' Sale!

"This is flat-out embarrassing, for my family, for my team, for our fans." — Chris Sale, April 16

His 5 starts since: 33 IP, 18 H, 6 BB, 59 K, 1.91 ERA.

The rotation has been blistering this month. Get 1 or 2 reliever. Upgrade the bench so Nunez and Pearce cannot f***ing allowed to play at the same time when JBJ or Leon is already in the lineup.

thats just......insane.

And get this: that one walk came in the first inning of the first of the three games. Since that walk, it's

40 K's no walks

That walk was to Jose Abreu in the first inning 3 starts ago. Sale has struck out 40 batters since the last time he issued a walk...

Yep. I beat you by 4 minutes though.

Little less because I went back in to fix a typo, which is something I do for about half my posts...
