Also, Trout signed this while still under contract with LA, meaning that he gave away what the free market would offer for the security beyond his current deal.

Mookie has to prove he can do like last year again. Otherwise hes not getting no 300Mil contract. Trout is basically a 10 war player EVERY year ( Betts is not) . If Betts has a drop off this season like he did in 2017 its going to hurt him financially

Did it hurt Harper? Harper is widely inconsistent. Betts is also better than in 2017 than all Harper season except 1.

These numbers suggest Trout's value is about 28% higher. He may also have a physique that's likely to last longer.

 

Bottom line, Mookie is not quite at the same level.

It's not really about the stats, because the stats have a ceiling of human ability. It's about the star power and putting asses in seats and eyes tuning in.
