First off, I think the chances of the Sox actually trading Bradley - or any starter - are only slightly better than the chances of the Sox relocating Fenway Park to the moon. Trades can really shake up a team, and this is a team best not shaken right now.

But message boards do need some sort of discussion. And I’m bored right now.

I think trading Xander Bogaerts would be more interesting to ponder. Now here's a guy that has a very high return value, and is honestly someone we have maybe only a 50/50 chance of resigning when he's up for free agency. And we could sign Iglesias to play shortstop.

Some people try to find the bad in everything.

Saying Dombrowski has no good prospects to trade isn’t a complaint. It’s actually an endorsement of what he’s done and a realistic look at what it will take for it to continue in the immediate future...

That's not true from a lot of people's perspectives. It's more often than not used as a complaint.

Not here. It’s more of an exploration of his trade bait. Started with Bradley (with a disclaimer that we all know Bradley isn’t getting dealt) but it was pointed out DD typically deals prospects, which is true for most of his career, not just in Boston...

It might not be true for you, but it's true for a lot of other posters. I'll update my TS cheat sheet to note your thoughts on this matter.

An asterisk should be fine...

Like Bradley, I expect X to be in Boston. The big problem with dealing one year rental players is the team’s most likely interested plan on being competitive, and those teams typically can’t give up the player(s) the Sox want or need...

IMO, trading Mookie would be an interesting point to ponder. Think about what kind of return he could bring.

He could bring a hefty return alright. But how are you going to get back more value than you're giving up?

In the last 50 years, the Red Sox have had 7 MVPs --Yaz, Lynn, Rice, Clemens, Vaughn, Pedroia, and Betts. Sure let's trade him. That sounds like a good idea.

Trading Mookie would be one of the few moves this team could make that would legitimately piss me off.

Also, I can't believe we have ANOTHER trade JBJ thread.

Bradley is an enigmatic, streaky bat that makes fan ponder what if while looking at the glove and seeing a top notch defender at a prime position. Eventually people need to be okay with the current and forget about the what potential could be
Posted
It does, but it's still bare.

"Hello highly rated amateur player, we just drafted you. How do you feel about playing for a team that hasn't won crap since last century?"

"Hello, highly rated amateur player. We just drafted you. How do you feel about playing for a team that won a championship and is competitive to win more for at least the next few years?"

I have to think that having the championship in the cupboard will help with the bareness problems. If it means a few more low signability guys wind up in our uniform, then mission accomplished.

Well, he did just have his most consistent 5 consecutive months of his career.

Potential does not end at age 28.

Bradley’s value will never be greater than it is now!

I still would not trade him, but desperate Dave could probably get a sweet deal for Bradley this offseason!

The problem is, the Sox don’t have those conversations with players. They have them with agents, who then say “And my highly rated client is willing to join your organization, if only you share with him some of those successes. And not the trophies, either”

Posted
The conversations are with clients and to be honest with you, as a player, these guys want to make it to the big leagues. And if a s***** team has a great development staff and a quick path to the bigs, that’s a bigger draw than a team known for some development issues and frequent dealings of their prospects

...and teams that have stacked ML rosters that are harder to quickly crack, even when you are really good.

You don't think we could get 2 plus players in return who would give us as much as Mookie? Then take some of the money saved from not paying Mookie $300+ mil to get back even more value.

I'm not really advocating that we trade Mookie, just saying that it's something interesting to ponder. That said, I think trading him for some cost controlled players has merit over giving him that mega contract.

I don't disagree. Having a bare cupboard has been worth it.

Just don't deny (not you personally) that the cupboard is indeed bare.

It sounds nice in theory, Kimmi, but you also have to figure out what other team would match up and how it would make sense.

If you look at the history of trades, teams don't often trade a great player for several good players. If a team trades a great player they're usually getting back a batch of prospects because they're rebuilding.

My challenge to you is to come up with a theoretical trade of Mookie that could actually happen and make sense for both teams.

The only way I trade Mookie, is if we decide to reset after 2019, and we have no plans at extending him.

I suppose we could reset after 2019, trade Betts and then re-sign him after 2020 (highly doubtful).

I was told this would be a non-silly thread about what we could get back for JBJ, but now we're talking about trading Mookie... This place is too ridiculous for me sometimes.

Maybe we’ll trade you ;)

Oh this could be fun. Let's see, I'll trade jacksonianmarch and mvp78 for Starscream, Soundwave, and a forum poster to be named later :)

Mookie isn't getting traded, we all know that.

Pedroia was never getting traded either, but some guy here used to talk about it all the time, even put it in his sig line I think.

Please don't compare trading the best player alive to trading an aging 2b.
