Well, I agree with half of your post.

I'll let you guess which part.

Fingers crossed. I really, really want him to pitch well, and not just because that would benefit the team. I want him to pitch well for himself, and hopefully, get over this postseason 'thing'.

OK...as the self described President of the Signing Price was the Stupidest Move Ever club....i'm gonna put this right here:

Price is going to pitch lights out for the rest of the postseason. starting with a 7 inning gem in game 2 of the ALCS.

book it.

That's the spirit!

And FTR, I am a member of that club. But I like Price. Hate his contract though.

We might be dodging a bullet with the weather. Sales Saturday night looks like it will be miserable, temps in the mid-40's with moisture in the air, wind 8 mph out of the west. Sale will likely pitch through anything. Verlander will likely show up in shirt sleeves. Sunday looks like it will be a chilly night but other than that not remarkable. No wind, no moisture. If Price is going to go in game 2, at least he is getting decent Oct Boston weather for it.

Weather and weather forecasting are as fickle as Price's performance in the postseason. Everything could change, for better or worse, especially in New England.

Yes, Price should start Game 2. They need him this year and the next 4 years. He had a good regular season and, eventually, he will win a playoff game. Cora has been right most of the time. I trust him.

Merloni brought up a really good point. Why throw him game 2 in what is forecast to be ugly and cold when he could be bumped to game 3 in Houston where the climate is controlled?
And why does a Yankee fan continue to troll a Sox board? You were the guy on Sept. 29th talking about the Yankees tying the season series with the Sox. LOL! You also said the Yankees would beat the Sox in the playoffs. LOL.

Yup, he does need to pitch well.

I think that he's got no heart, when it comes to big games, but the Sox are stuck with him.

So, I hope that he gets over his mental issues and grows a pair.

He's got the talent, but no intestinal fortitude.

Yup, it'll give Mr Tingles another excuse to pitch badly.

I'm in that club, too. The only reason I ever liked it was the opt out, which looked like a obvious end when compared to the contract Zack Greinke received that same offseason at the age Price would be at opt out time.

But I think the Greinke contract is not likely to repeat itself anytime soon for anyone below Kershaw level...

You love me Teddy, lets be honest. Cannot get enough. I've outlasted trolls for years. You will be no different

I also wonder why he needs to be on a 2 game cycle. He should be your #4. Porcello has been nails and Eo might be your hottest pitcher right now. Why throw Price twice and once in the freezing cold, who has the second highest postseason ERA in baseball history (Jaret Wright hold the highest, btw), when you have other guys capable

They have 217 million reasons to give Price every opportunity...

Not in the post-season. We had a guy on a $275 million contract batting 8th because he couldn't cut it when the lights got bright

I think the Sox logic here is simple. Price is their second best pitcher. Like me, maybe they don't have much faith in post-season stats as they typically come from a small number of innings or plate appearances scattered out through multiple seasons. And I doubt they are putting any faith in Price's last start, since he struggled against the Yankees all year and they think that might be a bigger factor in his poor outing than any post-season willies...

Not enough metaphorical references to body parts here. ;)

I'm with Kimmi: go, Price! Horrible postseason record, but it can't go on forever. I do hope he learned something from Sale's start vs. the Yankees because Price has a pretty good changeup, slider, and, I think curve, but I think he uses his fastball and cut fastball too much. My impression of Sale in game 1 of the ALDS is that the first inning showed him not to rely in his fastball. Subsequently, he seemed to me to throw most of his fastballs out of the zone, almost as waste pitches.

The guy is a seasoned pro who has had a very good season and the second highest WAR on the team after Sale. He leads the Sox in quality starts. A month ago he went 6.1 vs. the Astros at Fenway and gave up 2 runs. So we are not talking about a miracle here, only the art of the possible, maybe even probable.

Price in Game 2 is the correct move. Dance with who brung ya. No need to change up things for the post season. The only difference in the post season is you may want a quicker hook.

And Cora has already shown an affinity for the early hook. Price left in the 2d inning in game 2.

Agreed Max. And there will be a short Leah just like against the Yankees. My guess. He gives up 2 runs he’s gone whether that be the first inning of the 6th.

Perfectly stated...

People get so fired up for the playoffs they want to change up things that have worked all year. No need for it.

So you must have been furious when Cora sent Sale out to pitch the 8th inning the other night.??

Bumping this s***!!!!! Price. Please play out of your mind tomorrow. We need you and then some to get the win.

The stros will be loose out there tonight. This team needs to come out and grab an early lead.

Definitely agreed. Sick of these slow starts.

Fact check:

Last night was our 5th playoff game.

In our first we were up 5-0 after 4.

In our third we were up 10-1 after 4.

In our fourth we were up 4-0 after 4.

Time for everyone to hold their collective noses as Price goes out there and once again proves that he is the consummate choke artist.

I hope I am wrong.

Rank the following three pitchers by career postseason ERA from worst to best.

1. David Price

2. Chris Sale

3. Luis Severino
